Maximum Speed for Atomiswave
« on: September 11, 2011, 12:44:34 pm »
Hey everyone

I was just curious to see if anyone knew of anybody who has played Maximum Speed in demul..or any other emulator forthat matter? I know it's pretty recenet.  But I've noticed that extreme hunting and extreme hunting 2 are both newer than Max Speed and those are in demul. Also, it's not listed in the games for atomiswave in demul but it has it's own directory for mame which leads me to believe it's already been dumped. Just curious, any info is greatly appreciated

Shortly after the last release of Demul (.5.6), CaH4e3 posted WIP pics of Maximum Speed and Faster than Speed working in Demul.
I'd take that to mean that they will work on the next release....whenever that happens.

There was a newer test version of Demul leaked earlier this year, so it's within the realm of possibility that they would play on that version.
(I'm off to look for it now, or at least some comments about how it differed)

Just because the game launches doesn't mean it will play properly though.
Initial D plays in the current version, but it has too many issues to be enjoyable.

NullDC and Makaron don't support atomiswave games yet and probably won't anytime soon.

Awesome info thanks a lot! I work for chuck e cheese and we had 2 maximum speeds and 2 faster than speeds back to back, then when we got new games they got rid of the maximum speeds about a year and a half ago. They're both pretty good, I just would have preferred to get rid of the faster than speeds before max speed. Please let me know if you get any more info!

Not sure why I decided to mess with this when I have a half dozen unfinished projects, but......

I downloaded the leaked WIP version of Demul .5.7 and both games launch and appear to play full speed.
I say appear, because I can't actually play them.   Controls for the steering and pedals don't work.  :hissy:

I don't think it's anything wrong with my config.  The controls are mapped for atomiswave and work just fine on the NAOMI games.
I tried mapping them to each of the 4 players and none of the analogue controls work.  (coin/start/shifter does)
Pretty sure they just haven't been hooked up by the developers.
(this wasn't supposed to be a public release)

The other odd thing is that the cars wreck a lot in attract mode.  :lol

Things have been pretty quiet on the Demul front lately.
Not sure when there will be another official release, if ever.  :-\

It drives me nuts to know that these two games are so close to being playable.

Sweet deal that's really good news! I really hope they can finish that up soon! I've been itching to play maximum speed ever since we got rid of it. I'm curious to see how my system would run either game. I had extreme hunting working with a little bit of sound lag on 32 bit xp and since upgrading to 64 bit 7 it's almost perfect.  I thought it was odd that the last release of demul was over a year ago. Is that about normal for them? I'm sure the stuff takes a lot of time it just seems like other emus get updates more frequently. Well anyway thanks for keeping me posted even though I asked about it a little bit ago I really appreciate that.

Does demul have force feedback?

Does demul have force feedback?

Not as far as arcade games are concerned.  I've never used it for Dreamcast.
I get a direct ffb error when I launch the games in xp, so something is going on.
Maybe vibration?

With a kick in the right direction from one of the Devs, I got the controls working except for the brake pedal.
In the old version of the WIP .5.7 that I have, analogue controls are mapped on the Player 3 inputs while the rest of the controls are mapped on Player 1.

They are both playable, but have some issues I haven't been able to iron out yet.
I was going to wait until I had it figured out, but I'm not sure it's possible with this WIP copy.

Maximum Speed freezes up after a few laps (made it 3 laps the first time, 6 the second).

Faster than Speed works pretty good.  The graphics were corrupted on the 2nd race once, but it only happened once.

When I try to go full screen in either game, the picture is messed up and flickers a bit, like the TV can't handle whatever signal it's getting.
I tried all the different video settings and it didn't make a difference.  This is a leaked WIP copy, it could be locked to some video setting at fullscreen that the tv can't handle.  They look fine in windowed mode.  I'll continue to tinker with it.

They seem to behave better on my cab.  Maximum speed has frozen up a couple times when left in attract mode, but hasn't during a race yet.
Still couldn't get them to run fullscreen. they are running windowed, with the frame blacked out.

I'm glad you asked about these games!  :applaud:
I never would have looked into them otherwise.

EDIT: I should mention that I never did get the brake pedal working and it is absolutely necessary on some tracks in Faster Than Speed (180 degree turns).
Maximum Speed has frozen up a couple times while playing since posting this video.  I still decided to incorporate them into my front-end for now.

awesome! thanks for uploading that video. I found a dowlonad for the leaked WIP and tried to get maxium speed to launch just for laughs. I got the sammy screen and heard the atomiswave bootup sound. then the "announcer" i guess you'd say said maximum sp- and then it stopped all while still one the sammy screen. I'm not too worried about it though i just wanted to check it out, but your video does that just fine! Thanks again for looking in to this, im psyched to be able to play this soon!
