Rise Of The Planet of the Apes

Worth seeing in my book.   Has some feeling and some great CGI (I think).   Some prequel movies really suck but this one can stand on its own without being part of the series imho.

Really? The CG looks horrible to me. It reminds me of me of, I Robot . Nothing looks like it should noting moves like it should.

I get they had an actor playing the monkey but it sure did not come out like any Gollum to me.

MY sentiments exactly. I thought John Lithgow was good, but Franco was meh. I think he could have acted better considering his dad has alzheimers. The GF bugged me too, but Malfoy(I dont know his real name) played his part well, I could see someone doing stuff like that in real life.

Come to think of it, I think this is the ONLY movie where I felt empathy for the CGI. Can you think of anything else?

Please GOD do not say Avatar.

Since we are talking about CG and practical effects I just watched this Doc on just that on Netflix a few days ago.

I could not tell if any of the chimps were live.   I assume that since all chimps seemed to act very human like that they were all CGI in the  film.  Even in the beginning when Bright Eyes was captured there seemed to be alot of scripted running and jumping going on so I assume no real chimps were used.

Saw this yesterday and it totally exceeded my expectations (",)

Plot made lots of sense, acting was great, a perfect explanation of how the world came to be in the original Planet of the Apes.

Oh, I feel a little bad for Andy Serkis, he always seems to get the gimp roles. Even when he's a human, he gets to play Ian Dury

Saw Apes last night, it was pretty enjoyable.

I must say I do have profound objections to the way that animal research, and in particular chimpanzee research, was depicted in that film.  Yeah, yeah, it's just a movie, but people are going to think that's actually how it's done and then vote for stupid crap like banning chimp research.  Can't speak for you guys, but I'd like to see a cure for HIV or Hepatitis C someday.

Did like the San Francisco monkey thunderdome, though.  WTF was THAT about?

I dont think the demographic that is seeing this movie is the type of person to protest any type of research being done. I think by the end of the movie you kind of forget about that, and let the fantasy part take over considering the feelings felt towards Caesar. They should just start testing humans, leave the chimps alone. Like we dont have plenty of humans to test on.

I went to see this movie today. Was going to see it last weekend but the passing of my brother put everything on hold. Just figured I needed to get out of the house and do something.

Anyway, I loved this movie. I dont care that it was CGI, it was probably the best CGI I have seen so far.
The technology is getting better. We may be seeing something like "Simone" before too long.
Anyway, I highly suggest you see it if you havent already.
Now some spoilers:

The launching of the ship to Mars had the same name as the ship in the original movie with Charlton Heston.
Also notice that a newspaper sneak peak said it was missing.
"Get your paws off me you dirty ape" was used again in this movie.
The slow guy watching TV when he was called by the other guy to help him was watching Charlton Heston on the TV. Was it a scene from the original POTA? I couldnt tell for sure.
I heard that the guy playing Ceaser not only played Golum but also played King Kong.

They named the Orangutan Maurice, because the actor that played doctor Zaius' name was Maurice, and he was an orangutan.

I didn't even want to look at this thread until after I saw the movie, which I went and saw this weekend. I had some huge issues about how it would be going in...
... because I'm sick of the "reboot" idea, and I also knew that if it did mesh up with the original movie, it would have to end with the extermination of mankind in a war (my assumption based on the original) and I didn't think the movie would go there.
The fact that it didn't end with a war, but then alluded to the extermination of mankind via virus was very clever.

Not sure why they did it 4 minutes into the credits, but I'm glad they did it. I almost walked out disappointed in the ending because of the way they handled it.

Thought the movie was a little slow getting started, but not boring. Its refreshing to see smart sci-fi that isn't ponderous. Really liked it, though the slow build up might make it a little tedious for repeat viewings.

Chimps running through plate glass windows = Stupid.

30 Chimps escaping a shelter and multiplying into 300 instantly was stupid (even with the addition of zoo escapees, it wasn't anywhere near the number they showed in that aerial shot on the mountain).

Yeah youre right, the baby chimp did look really out of place, I think that was the only one that I was like "dude. cmon".

haha regarding the amount of apes, I didnt even really realize that, I was too caught up in the action. Obviously didnt mind it.

I agree. I didnt notice the apes being so numerous in the movie, but come to think of it, you are right. Lets hope they tweak out these little nuances in the next movie.
