Touch screen monitor overlays
« on: June 15, 2011, 05:46:07 pm »
I've seen a couple listings on Ebay for touch screen monitor overlays. Most look like they are from Hong Kong, judging by the English. I've seen a few offered new online (like the Keytek Magic Touch) but those ones are almost as expensive as a monitor. It seems like all of the above plug into a USB port.

First of all - has anybody used the touch screen kit overlays? Are they decent? Or should I shell out the extra bucks and buy a proper, touch-screen from-the-factory monitor?

Look for a used ELO monitor. They are pretty darn durable. Got mine (15") for about $70 on eBay.

Overlays just seem problematic to me, but that's a totally uninformed personal opinion.

I've used two overlays, one in my jukebox, one for my pub quiz machine. They were a lot cheaper than a touchscreen monitor, as they rarely turn up for cheap here in the UK.

Just install the driver, run the setup program and you're done. Admittedly, it will take longer to install in a cab as you need to mount both the overlay and the screen, rather than just a screen, but it's not rocket science.

A popular seller (and local to me) has a bunch of them again.

BTW - A "touchscreen monitor" is nothing more than a standard monitor with an overlay pre-attached.  ;)
They aren't "special" monitors, they just happen to have a touchscreen overlay already on them.
