Apparently we weren't the only ones who really liked MK9.

I ran across this article while surfing the web:
http://mkextre.me/2011/05/12/mortal-kombat-1-selling-game-in-april-2011/

So around 1 million units sold the first month!  And keep in mind that it was released towards the end of april, making it an unprecidented hit.  This is especially true considering that it is a fighting game and a fighting game not released in the mid 90's

To put it in comparsion, SF IV sold only 400,000 units it's first month and SSFIV only 250,000.  Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the only fighting game in recent history to top this, selling around 2 million it's first month.  I think a lot of it's sales come from the fact that the words "Marvel" are in the title though.  ;)

WB Interactive has already made more money off of this release of Mortal Kombat to pay for the entire aquisition of Midway, plus a hefty profit to boot!
This essentially ensures NR studios postion and will allow for more games to be released in the future without the financial worries that plagued the studio in the last generation.

I was let down by the lack of characters and content from MvC3, so Im kind of jaded about buying fighting games right when they come out now. And the DLC is a ---smurfing--- joke. I dont want to derail this thread talking about how much THAT ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- pissed me off.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

I'm with you on that 'zilla.  Bought MK day it came out.  Didn't get to play it much at all that day.  Now you can get it for $29.99.

I have to say, they really did step it up on this iteration of MK.  I have been very pleased with my purchase.

The story itself is far from amazing... I mean, who didn't see Shao Kahn = "HE MUST WIN" coming a mile away? However, the way they executed the Story Mode as a whole was fantastic. The story flowed pretty smoothly, the transitions between video/game engine were almost imperceptible (by that I mean not at all distracting) and it kept you interested by using a regular rotation of characters, rather than the straight-line method of "pick a character, fight everyone until the boss."

I even thought the voice acting was pretty good given the subject matter! (Sorry Howard, but your boy Shang Tsung was garbage. Seriously; hire an older actor next time, Boon.  Thankfully, Johnny Cage and whoever did Quan Chi made up for Shang's disappointments.)

More importantly, the gameplay is fun (just started the Challenge Tower!) and fatalities are distinctly rewarding again.  Subway stage fatality anyone?  :laugh2:

Where? EB sells it for 50 used and you still have to drop 10 on a live code. I (*cough*My girlfriend*cough*)spent $150 the day it came out.

Toys 'R Us was selling for 29.99 after a 10 dollar in store coupon, I believe.

This game was totally worth it.  SFIV arcade coming out for 15 bucks, will hopefully be worth it, 10 bucks for the Mortal Kombat Kollection will be worht it.

Long live the fighting game!

Holy crap!  Apparently the 1 million units figure was only the US sales.  Who knows how big the actual number was.

Of course the fact that it is banned in Australia might hurt international sales slightly.

Well, what can I say. Donk and I just see eye to eye, I cant cheat on Vigo though, he is my boy.  ;D

Yeah, I kinda thought the same thing, but I blew it off. $40 bucks is reasonable.

I think it was on sale for 49.99 and there was a 20 bucks off coupon so you could get it for 29.99 somewhere in the universe.

I honestly think that 60 is reasonable for this game.  its that good.

Don't worry Malenko, I am sure there are lots of folks that are dying to be bromantically involved with you.

BTW. Someone should make a BYOAC room for KOTH, so we can kick each others asses....
