I have to say, they really did step it up on this iteration of MK. I have been very pleased with my purchase.
The story itself is far from amazing...
I mean, who didn't see Shao Kahn = "HE MUST WIN" coming a mile away? However, the way they executed the Story Mode as a whole was
fantastic. The story flowed pretty smoothly, the transitions between video/game engine were almost imperceptible (by that I mean not at all distracting) and it kept you interested by using a regular rotation of characters, rather than the straight-line method of "pick a character, fight everyone until the boss."
I even thought the voice acting was pretty good given the subject matter! (Sorry Howard, but your boy Shang Tsung was garbage. Seriously; hire an older actor next time, Boon. Thankfully, Johnny Cage and whoever did Quan Chi made up for Shang's disappointments.)
More importantly, the gameplay is fun (just started the Challenge Tower!) and fatalities are distinctly rewarding again. Subway stage fatality anyone?
