when i was a kid i thought American Samurai was the coolest movie I had ever seen.  Now that I am a adult, i think its one of the worst movies i have ever seen.  The acting is terrible, there is a ton of mess ups.  In one seen this guy gets his arm cut off, then killed, a few scenes later you can see him practicing his martial arts.

I'm with you on this. I also get turned off by current movies/TV shows that use computers in the "Hackers" way. Where it almost looks like they are playing a video game when hacking into a computer. Or when they take a picture and blow it up a million times until a person walking 2 miles in the distance is seen and suddenly super clear and recognizable.

You guys remember 1995 Hackers, first movie with Angelina Jolie.

That movie had it all. Hacking that looked like playing a video game, virtual cyberspace, image displaying on their face.

I think after seeing that I pretty much hated all movies that had computers in them.

Yea, Hackers was the worst culprit. I also found it funny that it was obviously supposed to be based in somewhat of the future (or at least I always thought), yet a lot of the "hacker" things they were doing were outdated. Also the hardware they were using and going crazy over was on the verge of being outdated when the movie was released. I still remember this scene...when they were at a party checking out a computer in one of the rooms and one of them says something like "Whoa this thing is blazing fast...it has a 56k modem"....I fell on the floor laughing at that. 56k modems were already old news by at least 4 years by then.

So I did a little bit of research and found that they actually say 28.8k not 56k. And that 56k came out around 97-98. Hackers came out in 95. But my point is still valid since 28.8k modems were pretty much old news by 95.

Yeah, and she's virtually unrecognizable if you're only familiar with how she looks after the tons of plastic surgery.

Another similar experience can be had with "Blue Juice" and Catherine Zeta Jones.

Angelina looks TONS better in Hackers, for sure...

HarumaN: I agree on Angelina. I think she is way hot in a dirty kind of way in Hackers. Sure, she is still hot...but in a fake California way..which isn't really my preference.

boykster: Robocop is a great classic movie. So is Buckaroo Banzai.

Whoa whoa WHOA. Im gone for a couple days and you guys are talking ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about one of the greatest movies OF ALL TIME?!?! ROBOCOP!??!  :o I LOVE that movie. Its a great movie, aside for the stop motion, whats wrong with that movie? And, to the great Phil Tippett, the stop motion in that movie is rad, I personally like it. I would prefer that than stupid CGI, most of the time it looks so cartoony anyway. Damn. Robocop rules. That is the movie that made me want to make movies!

Two movies that get my vote:

The Boogens

Great White aka The last Shark

Saw both at Lakewood Mall cinema and then a trip to the Electronic Coral for some games back in the 1980s.

Real scary crap.  :laugh2:

John Candy has some great lines in that one when he is catching.

A couple of other good baseball "themed" movies I like are Mr. Destiny and Taking Care of Business.

I have to throw in The Guyver. One of the worst manga to film translations ever made. The script writer basically made it up as he went and the best part they got Mark Hamill to co-star.

Here is a clip the american movie.

the 1st japanese series opening.

and here the opening of the 2nd japanese version made in 2005

I'm pretty sure that The Movie Channel lost some sort of bet with the producers, and so it showed on that channel almost daily for most of the 80's -
Beastmaster.

in the same vein, but on a much lower profile - The Sword and the Sorcerer.

Both terribly written, directed and acted. Love 'em.

I loved The Guyver anime. I never seen the live action movie until 2 weeks ago. It was pretty bad. Reminded me of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie" mixed with Power Rangers. Now some of you might be thinking "Hey I liked the TMNT movie." Well that's fine but The Guyver anime was very violent and was adult themed. The live action movie was zany and corny and sort of geared for kids. And what I hated most was they had Jimmy Walker (J.J. from Good Times) as one of the bad guys. And he would often rap while fighting....and he had a couple of lines that used the word "DYNOMITE!". Really stupid...and no where near a faithful translation. I did think they did a decent job on The Guyver's armor though. Especially for the time.
