D9800 and ArcadeVGA 3000 Rolling Lines (refresh rate?)
« on: March 11, 2011, 01:50:40 am »
I've put the ArcadeVGA 3000 in my Mame cab.... I get the rolling lines (sideways) from POST all the way up into Windows.... At the same time it present these rolling lines, I also get the default "No Signal In" screen...

Seems like it's running on the wrong refresh rate or something....

I've got the D9800 monitor, any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

Also, If I hook my VGA monitor up to the DVI port (yes, using the VGA adapter), as soon as I plug in my D9800 in the VGA port, my other monitor goes black... (even though Ultimarc says they support extended desktops)

Thanks!

-Pete

You need to find the overall resolution, as (I'm pretty sure) it clones the displays. With a PC monitor connected to the DVI port, set the resolution to 640x480 or 800x600. Restart your system, and quickly connect the D9800 to the VGA port. Both should come up.

I figured out the problem thanks..

The issue was that the ArcadeVGA send +5 volts on pin 9. I had Wells Gardner send me the wiring schematic for the d9800 and I noticed that pin 9 goes to ground..... That's obviously an issue. So after digging around my spare wire drawer I found a vga cable that had pin 9 missing... I tried that cable and my ArcadeVGA works perfectly now. I communicated that with Andy from Ultimarc and he was happy I found that issue, apparently there's quite a few people that reported that same issue.

Thanks,

-Pete

I had the same problem with mine when I installed my 9800 over a year ago...I installed the monitor in my cab and I had a spare monitor cable that looked better (thicker)...connected it and i kept of getting NO SIGNAL IN....after about and hour of trouble shooting, i connected the stock cable that came with my montior and it worked...i felt like a dumbass...lol I didnt go into detail about comparing the 2 cables...but I just guessed that my 9800 stock cable had more pins and thats why it worked.

but know Im having problems with the picture..not major problems...but its just not correct...you can view the thread here...i would read it if I were you in case in the future you have this problem also.....

So glad this worked for you... I was so frustrated that (as stated above) I literally reviewed the wiring schematic and found the issue.

Bad design, but removing pin 9 worked like a charm!!!

Very happy my post helped someone else!
