It's by far the funniest thing on TV since Arrested Development.  And, perhaps coincidentally, it actually has a good amount of Arrested Development talent attached to it.  Seriously . . . get on this.  You don't want to not find out about it till it's canceled (which is probably what happened with Arrested Development).

I have not seen the show, but I have seen many commercials for it.  It looks hilarious.

When is it on?

Thursday nights on FX, but don't start watching.  Get the first season first.  Lemme know if you have trouble getting the first season.

Awesome show.
I agree on watching the first season before starting season 2 though.

Archer is absolutely hilarious.  I wasn't watching the first season when it aired, but it came on Netflix Instant Watch and i flew through the first season in a day or two.  Great show.  I'm loving the 2nd season so far.

I enjoyed it 4 years ago when it was adult swim and it was called Frisky Dingo.  ;)

Putting it simply and bluntly...ARCHER ROCKS...agreed by far the best adult viewing for a long time.

Here is the thing...when I was 13 I swore I would watch cartoons forever and then as a late teenager stopped watching them...I was a Saturday morning cartoon kid so to me cartoons were synonymous to being for "kids"...how wrong I was...

I knew about Southpark but it was still geared more towards the late teen crowd than adults...

Then I discovered Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Archer and oh boy, how wrong I was.  Both are shows you wouldn't let your kids near...they are made for adults and more specifically the late 30s crowd..in fact with both shows the closer in age to the target of 39 you are the more jokes you get...whether its references to groups like "Foreigner" etc...

So YES WATCH ARCHER and Aqua Teen as well...don't be put off by the fact they are cartoons...they are most definitely some of the best viewing on television.

i have trouble finding the first series

talking of comedy, 'the inbetweeners' channel 4 show, if you've not seen it, is awesome, right up there with the standard of things you've mentioned, recently watched the first show and did all 18 shows back to back pretty much
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

Does the plot ever move beyond jokes about him being attached to his mother?

That's a big one but yes they get into all of the other ISIS agent's relationships with each other.  I can't say for sure you'll like it if you keep watching though since I was hooked from episode 1.  Give it a couple more episodes though, in my opinion it's top 10 comedy right now.

Archer is the best cartoon on tv since.... wait I had something for this. Anyway, didn't I look just like Burt Reynolds when I shot that guy?

Protip:  If you download season 1 to see what the fuss is all about, DO NOT start with episode zero (the "unaired pilot").  It might be amusing once you've watched a few episodes, but it doesn't make a good first impression.

I'll save you the trouble.  It's identical to the first episode except that Archer is replaced with "Archer-saurus", a raptor that speaks in screeches and growls.  It sounds terrible and there are no subtitles so you only get half the dialogue (from the other characters).

If you're really into the show and want to see them do something weird, it might be funny for a minute or two.

It's the "unaired pilot".  Emphasis on the quotes.  It was probably a special feature put together just for the DVD release.  Putting it in front of TV execs would have resulted in a swift kick to the crotch followed by a kick in the rear out the door.

I watched the entire episode thinking that with all the glowing recommendations and the fact that it got a second season there had to be something I was missing.

I just got a buddy of mine to start and had the same issue.  I had to remind him to just skip the unaired pilot after I got a message saying "WTF Archer is a dinosaur?!"  haha.

Its very weird.  Safe to skip entirely IMHO.

My fave episode is still the "rigid airship" one, so many great lines.  She's the Pele` of anal.

Netflix suggested this to me a couple/few days ago, and I almost passed on it. Just watched the first episode. (And then I vaguely remembered someone might've posted on it....though I didn't think it was so long ago....)  Pretty damn funny. It would otherwise be stupid as all get out, but it manages to not be.

all the episodes seem disconnected and just not up to the caliber of episodes past. Still some great one-liners though.

Couldn't find a clip of it, but the first episode of the latest season Archer was living a double life as "Bob" from "Bob's Burgers", they had the whole family there too. Pretty awesome episode.

I just saw that!!  That makes it the best episode so far! (Especially as I trained someone into one of these in real life....well, she had the talent, I just provided the environment.)  It also occured to me that there was probably a LOT of Strong Bad influence leading to Archer's linguistic behavior. I wonder if that dude is getting compensated........

Love the series, the writing is amazing and so well thought out. I DVR them and watch them each at least a couple of times to pick up on all of references. Even then I end up Googling a bunch to get some of the meanings. I love the ongoing jokes...

I don't know about this show.....  The baby episode (season 2) started to jump the shark, and the cancer eposide definitely did. I just saw where he goes to Russia to confront his fader of da KGB. It's getting a bit over the top, weird, and perhaps too darkly humored....or at least in the direction it's going.

I dunno about the humor being too dark. I'm not very sensitive to that. But after a few amazing episodes, the last four I watched (current season) were not very good. That's a pretty long streak. I'm at least an episode or two from being caught up. I hope it hits its stride again.

Too dark is like in the Russia episode Barry loses his leg after falling in a trash can. It's just a little too much.  The whole episode is just too fantastic, and not in a fantasy way, but just an absurd way. At least the first season was pretty awesome. Pele of anal was the peak.

And: what's with this pre-glasnost russian and all that?   Further, what's with the 70s tough-guy references?  I mean, I get it, and I laugh, but I haven't seen almost *any* of the Burt Reynolds movies of this kind, maybe two Mcqueen movies, and I was a 70s baby.  Who's the target audience here?

I said:

What's with this pre-glasnost russian and all that?   Further, what's with the 70s tough-guy references?  I mean, I get it, and I laugh, but I haven't seen almost *any* of the Burt Reynolds movies of this kind, maybe two Mcqueen movies, and I was a 70s baby.  Who's the target audience here?

apparently me?  I dont get all the references, but that's every show ever. This season was a little off, some episodes just not that good but Pam as a nun was great.

I noticed in one of the episodes, there was a 'Jessica Walter movie' cameo, for want of a better phrase. She was in a 60's movie called Grand Prix, set in Monaco. And sure enough, in the Archer episode when they go to the Monaco Grand Prix, it features (inexplicably until you know why) 1960's Grand Prix cars (",)

I'm terrible at making these connections normally. It got me thinking, are there more references like this in Archer? Perhaps every episode?

I saw that episode. Didn't get it at all. But I don't watch any sports or even tv, so I have no idea what shoes or clothes they're wearing, let alone what kind of cars are being driven.

Beniot....

BALLS!

most of the first season or 2 of archer was set in an obscure reference, with even more references all around just like the Monaco episode.

You couldn't tell that they weren't the latest type of Grand Prix car?

@Malenko: oh, well that makes sense why it's so bizarre. Layers of it.

No idea. Seriously, I get NO media exposure, aside from what I might see while out and about (which is very occasional), at my parents' house (which I usually leave the room from anyways - when we're watching M.A.S.H. I mute the tv during commercials), or what's said here.

So, unless you googled it, you can't tell which one of these cars is from 1961, and which is from 2013?

Obviously the bottom one is newer, since they didn't have self-driving cars in the 60's.

HEHN HEHN HEHN, YEAH.

Um, if you showed me both those cars, I wouldn't bat an eye much at either of them - except that I like the 'lines' of the bottom car much better. If you asked me which was older, just out of the blue you know, I'd have to stop and look and think. I might ask you a question like, 'What is each for?', first. If you said they were for the same thing, I'd probably pick the top one.

I think he has that problem where people can't recognise faces, what's that called? Either that or he is an old woman...

I don't know much about racing, of any kind. Even bike racing. I don't care.

She's likely (been) around males who do, though. In contrast, my aunt was out of the house most days most of her life - teaching, giving massages, interacting with people in various ways - and she probably would've given the same or similar answer I did.
