Xp updates w/o net connection
« on: August 21, 2003, 04:16:23 pm »
My cab doesn't have net connection, so no updates. I have another comp. with net connection and a burner but I cannot seem to just pick the XP updates cause microsoft.com wants to always scan my comp... what should I do, suggestions?

There is usually an "network" option for most microsoft downloads.  The "network" option is for companys that have multiple computers and it allows you to download the patch to a network drive and just run the installs from there (or if your really techincal you can push out installs to machines).

Sometimes you really have to dig around microsofts site to find the downloads thou.  They used to have a business site just for this.  I will look to see if I can find the site again.

Do you need to update regularly? I mean if everything works at the moment why worry, most Microsoft updates are to address vulnerabilities but as your cab has no external connections you shouldn

Just a note...

You CAN download updates for XP, burn them to disk, and run them on your tareget computer. My parents live in the sticks and have an extremely slow internet connection. This is how I keep their system updated.

How do you pick the updates rather than have microsoft scan for them? Is there an option I am missing?
