For 600 bucks I could buy the company!

Seriously, atari junk is virtually worthless.

Worm War I is pretty rare.  Not $600 rare, though.  The 6 switch woody Telegames unit is also rare.  Tends to be worth about twice as much as the standard version.  The price is just stupid, of course.  Maybe that person saw one on Pawn Stars or one of those auction shows that are so terrible.

I see this all of the time on Craigslist...not quite $600 but I see $200+ all of the time for just the console and controllers. I think that is too high unless it comes with more than half of the game library. Then MAYBE. But I personally think that $100 is too high for just the console.

I paid $30 I got a 6 switch Tele-Games, a Jr., a 4 switch woody, a vader, and a 7800 off of craiglist a few months back. I only use the 4 switch woody because that is the model that I had growing up, and I traded the Jr. for a C64.

There are like 900 original 2600 games not counting homebrews.  Half the library, at market value, would be a lot more than $600.

I guess he couldn't be bothered by the need to actually count the games, as "huge" is inherently subjective.

Okay, I finally get to break out the book I got for Christmas: "Classic 80's Home Video Games ID & Value Guide".   (These may be outdated, just a warning)

Worm War I goes for between $23 to $29 COMPLETE IN BOX depending on the version.   Unboxed?   $6 - $11

The "Heavy Sixer" Sears Telegrams system goes for $30 loose (maybe $80-$100 with all the controls, cords, etc.), the box would have brought it up to $185.   Loose cartridges figure at $2 - $5 each for the more common titles (which was most of them but I really didn't check each one).   Haunted House is a buck (again, loose).

So yeah, someone's overpaying or someone's seriously shilling.

Well to be far it started at 35 bucks, which is a very reasonable price.

Not necessarily. I remember when I was an ebay noob, I put a whole bunch of bids in, thinking 'gee, that other guy sure counter bids quickly'  ;D

I didn't however, get too carried away with the price. But some people do...

Interesting.  Never heard of that one or of the authors.  The Digital Press guides have always been the console collecting bible.  I haven't bought one in a few years but they at least used to be yearly and based on an ongoing publicly available database.  I always found it to be very accurate.  There are a couple of us here who even used to be noncredited contributors.  :)

Those prices seem a tad low but maybe things have gone down that far with recent economics.

Only goes as far as the 7800 for some reason...   If they listed NES I suppose they'd need a second book.

The book I got was a company called Collector Books, which is as of now ceasing publishing new books.    I also assume these prices are a couple of years old.   It was on my Amazon list as an afterthought and someone picked it up for me.   It's got some interesting material, but that being said I'll probably pick up the new edition of the Digital Press once it comes out as it's a little more thorough with the selection.
