Wow, sure has been a while since I posted a project on here. I have been quietly, and slowly, building Mountain Jukebox kits for the past year, so personal projects get pushed aside (still plan on finishing the Fantasy machine). I was asked last year by a member of this forum to build a one-off jukebox. I was given this HP Touchsmart 600 and these Bose CineMate GS Series II to work with. Yep, a 23" 16/9 wide screen, all-in-one.

The customer wants a wall mountable jukebox, but he also needs access to all of the ports and optical drives that are on the side. He also asked that a matching enclosure be made to house the sub unit just below, closer to the floor. This thing is going to be BIG. Massive.

I spent a lot of time designing this juke towards the end of the year but was bombarded with year end deadlines at my "real" job. Although the deadline came and went, the customer was very understanding.

I was able to get a lot of work done in the past few days since I took some well deserved days off. Using my CNC, I first started by cutting the frame of the juke out of two 3/4" pieces of MDF that I glued together.

Today I made the center part of the front panel.

It will be glued to the trim piece once it is wrapped.

This piece will eventually be chamfered on the inside and rounded over on the outside. I will be wrapping the trim in this vinyl.

The back of the main panel. Once the trim is wrapped in vinyl, it should fit like a glove. The stapler is there as a reference to the size of this beast.

The computer/monitor has a high gloss bezel surrounding the screen. To help with aesthetics, I will match this with gloss black acrylic around the marquee, speaker, and volume knob openings. These will be back mounted and polished.

Here is some video I shot today of the parts being cut on the CNC. Sorry, it's a bit shaky. It's the first and last time I use my iPhone for videos. $:-\$

Thanks Bender. The machine took about 3 months to build. That includes the controller.

Thanks. Yes I built it in 2009. This link has a lot of information regarding the CNC if you are interested. I just updated that thread to fix the youtube link.

Thank you, I really loved that project. My Dad uses his Jukebox all of the time.

Here are some shots of some of the parts I made this weekend.

The part on the left is the speaker grill insert. It is made from acrylic glued to 1/2" MDF. It will be back mounted to the wood laminate face and the grill material will be back mounted into the two openings you see here.

The oval in the center is for a special plaque the customer has requested. It will be made from .030" brass and engraved with text.

I was also able to finish hand routing the trim piece. it has a 45 deg. bevel on the inside and a 3/4" round over on the outside.

Here is a quick tip: Instead of using regular Bondo or wood filler to patch small holes, like above. I recommend using glazing putty. The stuff is smooth as silk and dries super fast. Plus, it works straight out of the tube, no mixing.

I've made a lot of progress on the juke, just haven't found the time to post.

I wanted to round over the corners for the sides, so I made a jig to bend each corner piece.

I used the CNC to relief cut two 1/4" pieces of MDF to wrap around the jig.

Here is the first piece clamped.

Then the second. I used polyurethane glue (Gorilla Glue) for this.

To make it easy to locate and clamp the finished corners, I cut a pocket .1" deep into the back plate.

The corner rounding jig looks like it could be some kind of jukebox itself. Amazing stuff as always.

Thanks guys.

The acrylic inserts are made by gluing 1/8" black acrylic to 1/2" MDF and then machining them to the shape I want. The piece above was beveled on the machine and then polished by hand.

That mdf looks clean...is that trupan or some other kind of formaldehyde free mdf?

I haven't, this will be the first time I have ever cut it. Should be OK though.

Yeah, I first did the bendy MDF on the juke kits. Works real well too. The MDF is just some off the shelf stuff from a specialty wordworking company in town. I have never dealt with Trupan before, but I have heard of it. I use a down spiral bit on MDF and then leave an onion skin on the bottom of the cut. Then I trim it with a pattern bit. There is a lot less sanding that way and the edges turn out really nice.

Congrats on the sign business by the way. I spent a long time on your site getting inspiration from Melissa's work I have dabbled in it a little, but no where near the level you guys are at.

Trupan is hard to find, it's imported from Chile. There is another similar product I haven't found yet in the US. Anyway, you would love it. After working with the regular mdf and trupan...you feel like you can take a bite out of the trupan, it's seems so clean and free of those chemicals they put in the other. Ouch man. I'm surprised you can't just go into your workshop and fix it yourself! A little bondo, some sanding and then you should be good as new.

Here is the sub "enclosure". It's more decorative than anything.

This is the light box for the marquee.

Here is the switch for the marquee light. When the right switch is in the on position, the marquee lights when the dor is shut to prevent scorching the customers eyeballs.

Incredible work dude. Honestly seeing this makes me feel like a complete amateur haha. I might as well go back to using black marble contact paper on all of my builds because there's no way in hell I'm going to come close to this in terms of craftsmanship! Amazing work and truly inspiring!
