In the UK they start at about £5000.

Don't know how safe they are as the boss of Segway went over a cliff on his and died (not a great advert)

It is quite sad as he gave up a lot of his money to charities and such.

Looks like vacation rentals.  Around here in some places you can rent Segways for the day and ride around on them drinking like a maniac.  Not a nerd thing so much as a way to get out of waiting for taxis and not have to drive.
