Little slow starting but Summer Glau in a miniskirt and working with computers.   It looks interesting for a super hero series.

I was looking forward to this one since I started seeing previews.  The premier was a complete letdown in my opinion.  Acting was corny and overdone and not in a good, funny way.  Flashbacks to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- that happened in the episode you're currently watching is retarded.  Couldn't connect with any of the characters.  Yea... I probably won't watch another.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Have to agree about the flashbacks.  I think they were just in there to increase the time of the first episode to 2 hours.

I think it was just awful.  I concerned though that crash couldn't tell it woudl be awful from the previews though.  I was expecting it to be terrible, but a grossely UNDERESTIMATED how terrible it could be.  Acting was terrible, SFX were terrible (they used the same puff of smoke cgi, for every single disappearance and the chains in the underwater scene, as well as the cape itself were clearly cgi), and plot was predictable and cheesier than the lamest 60's comic book.  When the villian that ties you up calls himself "Chess" and has chess piece contacts in (one of which was crooked but nobody bothered to tell the actor to fix it) you know you are in for a ride in crap.

That being said, there are some good points to the series that might be enough to save it:

1.  Summer Glau.. not only is she pretty, but she has a habit of making lame shows less lame just by showing up... of course this will be her first role that features a character with actual, normal emotions, so we'll see.

2.  Keith David... one of the best voice actors in the business.  Right up there with Frank Welker and Peter Cullen.  It's really odd to actually see him though.

3.  A midget... err a little person!

4.  The show isn't afraid to have comic book style villians.  Of course this is also what makes the show cheesey

So this might be one ot those train wrecks I have to follow to the end.  We'll see... many a good show started with a god-awful pilot.

Gotta say, I agree with Howard on it. Hopefully, they can get into a better groove in a few episodes, but it's stepped way into the "cheesy without intentionally meaning to be so" territory, which is a bad sign.

+1 for Glau though.

I haven't seen it or read much about it besides the previews I saw.  Is it just a blatant rip off of Batman?

I couldn't get through it.  Comic books and the super hero genre have evolved so far beyond this production.  It seems like a little kid wrote after seeing the Batman and Spiderman movies.  Not an original hair on its head.

I wouldn't go that far.  As far as the comic book genre goes storylines, while more sophisticated on the surface, are just as silly if not sillier than the cape.  Comic art tends to suspend your sense of disbelief more... it looks far worse when you see a live action man in his underwear.  ;)

Yes and no.  A TON of the origin story is taken from Batman, but strangely enough and equal amount of backstory is taken from Robocop.  Let's hope in the future they stress the Robocop plot points and let the Batman ones fade away.

I have it on the DVR and based on reactions here and around the internet I'm probably going to delete it.  Summer Glau, while awesome, is the kiss of death for TV shows.  Firefly, Terminator, Dollhouse - at least she didn't end up killing Chuck (even though this might be the last season... OK, I can blame this one on her too...).

It frightens me that you two decided to watch or not watch something based on OTHERS opinions.  The only opinion that counts is your own... watch it yourself for christ's sake!

For me,
I was on the fence already.  I'm a comic fan, so I was pretty sure this would be on the side of suck.  I also have to convince my wife to watch it.  But the comments above on the repetative flashbacks, bad effects, corny but not funny... tilts me towards not bothering.

If it sounded like a televised version of "KickAss!" that would be different, but from what I've heard (here and elsewhere) that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'd be much more likely to give it a 60 minute shot, but not 120.  Got too much to do in my basement to prep for my cab!!! :D

Watching it last monday it really reminded me of old shows like "MANTIS" and "The Flash" that used to be on and were sorta cheesy too.  I hope the show sticks around.  If they get too simple it'll be too cheesy...but on the flipside if they get too complex they'll end up like Heroes and confuse everyone to the point of not watching.

That's craziness.  Who has that much time?  There's way too much entertainment out there to just go about giving EVERYTHING a chance.  Doing so just ensures that you won't have enough time to get to the best of it.  You don't have to be absolutely sure about every single thing in life.  You have to play the odds and work with probabilities to make the most of life.  Time is your most precious resource and the odds are not in favor of the 2 hours you spend watching this drek not being utterly wasted--time that you can never get back, time that could have been spent on something with far far better odds of being time well spent.

It's winter and so far the whole US has basically been snowed in three times already.  Yeah, we are so short on free time right now.

So. Cal. had about 6 inches of snow a few weeks ago, which jammed up the freeways, but other then that, not much snow here.  Although it's not like being snowed in means I get to take the day off work :P

Reviews (including professional, from friends, and from forum members) often do not agree with my assessment of something, but when the reviews are largely unanimous, then I usually do end up agreeing with the reviews.  Most people need some sort of filtering mechanism to avoid watching all kinds of crap that is created, and this show has so-so previews and bad reviews, so I will give it a pass.  I'd rather spend my time watching things that are likely to be good, then things that are likely to be bad.

Oh please, we're talking about a 2 hour pilot, which if you have it on DVR turns out to be about 80 minutes of actual show time.  On top of that you'll probably know within about the first 30 minutes if it's worth continuing.   Of course you can't give EVERYTHING a chance, but if you're interested in the genre, why wouldn't you decide for yourself?  How busy are you?

Hmm,
Pretty darn busy.  On Sunday I spent several hours driving a truck with pallets of flooring back and forth between Home Depot and my house.  Then I carried the sections into my basement over and over again while my wife shouted down updates on the Bears/Seahawks, and then Jets/Pats games.  Grocery store run, daughter woke up early from her nap, and then needed to prep kitchen/furnace room for a plumber visit to check some pipes...

If the show is awesome I'll hear about it later and try to catch it on DVD.  On my DVR right now, about 8 episodes of "Lie to Me" and I've still only seen (but liked) the first 30 minutes of "9".  Saving the remainder of that when wife/daughter are otherwise occupied.  Time is scarce man!!   :afro:

I know, right?  I'm extremely busy.  I've got a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- ton of content I haven't seen or read.  Two hours is time enough to catch one of the myriad movies I've been meaning to see for ages.  I could watch a couple episodes of Dexter that I'm behind on.  I could work on my arcade cab or a million other things I need to do.  I could read a book or finally start 24 or Mad Men.  I could check out The Walking Dead, which looks much more promising.  I could play with or read to my daughter.  I could clean the house or make cookies.  I could open a beer and stare at the wall.  Any of these things would have a better chance of bringing joy to my life, and I don't have time to do them all.

I'm not being dramatic, really.  I NEED to do all of those things more than I need to spend two hours watching something I am almost certainly going to hate.  I'm not saying that I never waste time.  I'm just responding to this:

It frightens me that you two decided to watch or not watch something based on OTHERS opinions.  The only opinion that counts is your own... watch it yourself for christ's sake!

I'm saying that making informed decisions is a perfectly reasonable alternative to trying every single thing first hand.  Don't knock it till you've tried it has its limits.  I don't need to have a girl defecate on my face to know that I almost certainly won't be into it, lol.  I'm better off spending time doing things that I have a better chance of enjoying.   ;D
