Sorry for replying so late... the Seimitsu I ordered hasn't even arrived yet and I'm starting to realize that the mounting plate won't fit in the limited space under the control panel. I'll have to make the cp a bit bigger, which will mean that the bezel will be a bit more slanted; but I think it will still look alright. We'll see.
Do you want your arcade buttons that close to your joystick? I would put the player 1 and player 2 buttons in the middle of the CP and the action buttons on the right - like the arcade. At the very least, build a test layout to see how it works.
Yeah, swapping the start and action buttons makes it a bit less authentic, but I easily get a cramped neck, so I like sticks and buttons roughly the same distance from the middle of the cp. Re the closeness of stick and buttons, I'm used to that; I use this "Japanese" setup on my shmup cab as well. But yes, trying it out via a test layout first is always a good idea. I did that and it works.
Very nice. I'd agree with Leap and swap the start buttons with the action buttons. No idea what to write above the second button since I don't know what it'll be used for. How about 'Special' or 'Kapow!'?
I have mentioned Inkscape a couple of times now, so you may have gotten that from me. It is a great open source alternative to AI for us amateurs. Less powerful than AI but that's probably what makes it easier for us.
Well the second button will be used for many different two button games. I really like 'Kapow!', maybe I'll go with that...

for the Inkscape recommendation
