Anyone Springing for a 3DS?
« on: March 22, 2011, 04:40:27 pm »
3DS is almost here.  :D

While I am really excited about the the system, I am a little disheartened by the price point and the battery life of only 3 hours. I think I'm gonna hold out until the next revision comes out.  :-\

I looked at getting one, and then my CC bill arrived.

Oh well.  ;D
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Not excited in the least.  I can only use one of my eyes at a time, no depth perception or 3d vision so the 3ds and any 3d movie is lost on me.  Looks no different than normal.

Compared to the ds, (or even the psp) it's a real beast in terms of hardware specs.  And unlike the psp, it has nintendo, the king of portable software, backing it.  The 3d is a gimmick and it has next to nothing to do with the worth of the system.

Mind you the psp2 is coming out... but it'll have crappy sony games on it. ;)

I'm going to wait.  I'm thinking by christmas or manybe even next spring, the game catalog will be a lot better.

I didn't get my ds until the 3rd or 4th year because of the lack of a "killer app" but once nsmb came out I was all over it.  I figure the 3ds will be no different.  I'm guessing once Kid Icarus or something cool is released I'll be all over it.

I love 3D (gimmick or not), and I love the DS, but I have absolutely no interest in the 3DS at that price point, especially with that horrendous battery life.

Well I will have to wait and see.  I'm usually very late in adopting portable gaming systems.  I only got my first DS about 1 1/2 years ago and only have like 5 games for it.  Same with the PSP.   I will probably wait a couple of years until the price drops quite a bit.

If they cant get the biggest ---smurfing--- Nintendo fanboi ever to buy it, why should I?

I don't really think of the 3D so much as a gimmick this time around since it is incredibly simple to make most modern games viewable in 3D, it pretty much just takes displaying 2 camera different angles to produce the effect, many PC games have this capability already. I'm actually really pumped about the 3D since it is depth adjustable.

I can't see the 3DS really taking of like the DS did, unless they are able to come down $75-100 and fix the battery issue. The DS was only $150 when it came out.

I had one pre-ordered from Amazon until I tried one at Best Buy with the Pilotwings demo.  The 3D was pretty rough on my eyes, and I had to stop after about 5 minutes of playing. The launch titles do nothing for me either.

I'll probably pick one up when Mario or Zelda are released...but I think I'll be stuck playing them in 2D.  At least the screen got a healthy bump in resolution.

I will eventually get both a 3dS and PSP2 but one valuable lesson I have learned about Nintendo, they punish initial adopters...Gameboy advance? Yep got the clunky 1st gen beast...DS? Yep got saddled with the clunky 1st gen beast...I think Ill wait for Mark 2 and its improved battery life, screen vibrance and whatever other upgrades they throw the people who wait ;)

PSP2 I will likely get right away. Both systems are going to have games I like.

I'll go over this again.  I am NOT a nintendo fanboy.  Nintendo just happens to make superior first party games and for some reason 50% of the gaming population are haters and I have to come to the defense of such quality work.

Trust me, when M$ or Sony make a fun, perfectly polished, FIRST PARTY game I'll be all over it.  They just haven't yet.  Most of the 360 and pc games I like are third party, and thus they don't fall into "console war" debate.

I'm a huge fan of Ubisoft, for example.  With the exception of (ironically) their crappy nintendo-based titles, I don't think they've ever made a game that was less than fantastic.

It would be fair to call me a Midway/MK fanboy though.  I still say mk4 was a good game and I still like midway's pacman sequels better than namco's!  ;)
