Rainbow Six
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:30:26 pm »
After years of remembering how the good old days of Rainbow Six were, I decided to reinstall R63 onto my studio PC. Well, I got halfway through the install and it asked for disc 2. I go for disc 2, and in it's place I find.... HEART: DREAMBOAT ANNIE. I was looking for that.
So in a rage I run to where I remember having Rainbow Six Rogue Spear [basically rainbow 2]. Only it's not Rogue Spear, it's Rainbow Six... the first one. It installed very quickly and it was pretty good, I played it over a few days. My counter terrorism skills are still sharp after all these years, I can't believe how much better it is with a keyboard and mouse.

Well a few days after that I bought some new flooring and did up another room downstairs in my recording studio's lounge [yeah, I'm fancy that way - my house was entirely unfinished on the bottom floor when I moved in, freshly reno'ed on top, so now I'm down to flooring the studio one room at a time when I can afford it]. I moved the bookshelves downstairs and put them up, took down all the boxes of books and loaded the bookshelves. On a spindle I found a bunch of old PC games including disc 2 for R63, and a CD-r with the third expansion on it [it was a download back in the day]. I installed all of the discs - 2 for R63: Rogue Spear, 2 for Athena Sword, and one for Iron Wrath. Put in all my auth codes and started playing. Luckily the codes for that are printed in the CD case and not in the manual or a separate card that can be easily lost.

Graphics are weak, gameplay is awesome. And of course my studio computer runs everything on full. I miss this game, the online servers have long since been taken down but I can still play networked games, I have a box of computer junk at my mom's place and I think my other 2 copies of the game are in that box. I have plenty of computers in my house so maybe it will one day live again, though it will be much smaller scale.

I like the newer rainbow six games, but they have taken a few steps in the wrong direction. This cover nonsense is fun but it's a different game. Damn Ubisoft said it will "likely never go back to the other style of gameplay] which is a sad tale indeed.

They are making a movie, which I'm sure will be holly wood style over the top. But here's hopin'.

Two comments:

#1. The oldies are always the best.  Hence, why we're posting at a old arcade game website.

#2.  HEART: DREAMBOAT ANNIE.   :laugh2:

I saw them in concert back in 1988, my Freshman year in high school. Bad Animals tour. Good times!

I've done sound for them a few times, and a few years ago I went and saw them live at teh River Rock casino in Richmond BC. Before the concert I went to Zellers' and bought the biggest pair of panties I could find and tossed them on stage. I found it hilarious, but got some strange looks from other people.
