Nice, congrats dude thats awesome!

It cracks me up how a cop says I was speeding, then I give $100 to a lawyer & he tells the judge/PA there is $200 in it for them if they say "muffler". Ahhh yes America is a place where OJ can write a check & kill without recourse. I can use my car as a weapon & "donate" to the city hall & now best of all arcade dorks make it all happen (you).

Congrats again!

Thanks everyone.  I'm trying to get a job doing international arbitration which is more or less commercial litigation between two companies from different countries or litigation between a country and a foreigner (usually an investor) or between two countries.  I don't have a job yet, though and it's a pretty hard market to get into.  Eventually I need to take any job I can get so I can survive.  Still have my fingers crossed, but regardless, everything will work out for the best in the end.

Btw, this has been killing me.  I took the bar in July and for the last 3+ months I have been near positive that I failed. Takes the ---daisies--- long enough to give us results!  :)

I don't get test anxiety, including with the bar.  The problem is after you walk out having been utterly violated.   :)

It is 1000x harder than any other test I've ever taken.  I was sure I failed.  The absolute only thing that gave me even a hint of hope that I might possibly have passed is that every single person I knew seemed to feel equally bad about it.  I have no way of getting pictures off my phone right now or I'd show you the stack of books we had to more or less memorize for the bar.  It's about 2 feet tall.  And then the test was just . . . Evil.  Anyway . . . Can't complain.

Congratulations!  Professional licensure tests are always a PITA.  For engineering the EIT & PE tests are on scantron sheets and it still takes months before you get the results.  Waiting for the result is worse than preparing for the test.

So true.  I always tried to talk my classmates out of their crazy idea that graduation was some kind of light at the end of the tunnel.  College is the high watermark.  It's all downhill from there.  In so many ways.

When I graduated I thought I was going to be ballin' like P.Diddy or something (it was 2003, OK?).  Instead, I feel lucky every single day just to have a job where they take advantage of me by overworking and underpaying me because they know there's nowhere else to go.  It is rough out there - I know a lot of smart people who are out of work.

The NY bar was not easy (unlike the NJ bar which I didn't even really study for and I knew I passed as soon as I took it).  You should be proud.  Do you have a job lined up?  Are you working at BigLaw?  I was in Manhattan for a bunch of years working at BigLaw and it was not fun.  I was basically getting home at 11 or midnight every night, working weekends, no vacations, etc.  The pay was pretty sweet but I literally had no life.

No job yet.  Currently looking in NY, D.C., and abroad.  I want to work for Biglaw in the beginning because I want to get into Paris (and also eliminate the enormous amount of debt I have).  Multinational firms seem to be my best bet for that.  I have no illusions about it, though.  I've interned with them.  I know the nature of the job.

Eventually I'd like to teach, but I didn't go to Ivy League, so that door is closed for the time being.

Teaching seems like the ideal job.  Most professors only teach one or two classes a week and it's not like the case law changes that drastically year to year.  They make well over $100K for almost no work.  Sure they "research" and try to get published but that's really on their schedule.  I was a research assistant after my first year and I didn't do anything all summer and the person I worked for barely showed up for work.  There aren't may positions available though.

I think you should be able to find a BigLaw job if you look hard enough - firms are hiring again (slowly) but I don't know about first years.  Also, I guess a lot depends on your GPA and where you went to school.  Maybe a Top 20 firm is going to be tough but there are well over 100 BigLaw firms in NYC that all pay pretty much the same - there's got to be something...

Yeah, Paris is my first choice, but I've applied to a ton of places and so far I get mostly crickets and a few rejections, i.e., thanks for applying, you look great, unfortunately we don't have a suitable position blah blah.  Frustrating.  I'm still applying to places there, but I think there's a good chance that Paris may have to wait a year or two.

I had a similar experience throughout my 3rd year.  I was a research assistant for my evidence professor.  First, he got tenure while I was working with him and after that was making about $160k per year (I don't know what he was making before).  This was at the University of Miami.  And yeah . . . he taught about 5 hours per week.  Then, of course, he had to go to stuff like faculty meetings, etc., but that's nothing.  And he told me himself that publishing is hilariously easy because there are so many law schools with law reviews.  He said they'll print anything.  The one thing he really worked on (and had me working on) was a criminal procedure casebook that West is publishing.  He just did this to get tenure, though.  Unless it makes him a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- ton of money he doesn't intend to update it.  And most importantly, let's remember that this is for an 8-month contract.  Professors get 3 months off in the summer and a month off for the holidays.  Hour for hour these guys are probably making more than most partners in the biggest law firms.  And they get to work in the best environment ever (campuses), and not wear a suit to work.  And they have a steady stream of hot students who want to have sex with them for a better grade ( ;D wait . . . did I just type that out loud?).  Amazing job. Oh yeah . . . and sebaticals . . . I almost forgot to mention getting a year off but still being paid for it.  LOL, it's ridiculous.
