The new Xbox 360 update
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:58:14 pm »
I just downloaded it, like the changes to the dashboard [unlike last time, totally messed it up IMO]. Other than that, nothing to complain about. I think it was mostly for Kinect-related stuff, which I don't have. Took forever to download, I imagine there are a lot of people trying to get it right now.

Yup, don't like the new layout... everything looks all white! Even when I'm sending messages. Smart move Microsoft.

Well you've got to understand... after a few years of m$ and sony trying to distance themselves from nintendo, now it's time to bail and jump on the bandwagon.  What they don't get is it'll never work because Nintendo is pure awesome and they are pure "eh".

Adjust your TV. Factory settings are always way too bright.

I got it off their website while at work and installed from USB when I got home. It went way faster.

After playing xbox last night for wayyy longer than usual I've decided that I enjoy the whiteness of it. It is really bright - too bright - but it's easier to read than the blue grey theme they had before, especially if you use MSN messenger whilst playing.

Also they put netflix on it [at least up here in canada - dunno if it was already a feature elsewhere] and I signed up for my free month. I'll see how that goes, I don't have cable and these winter months are closing in! I need something to do when I can't go outside.

Yeah it was a long update. I kind of like the new style, but only because change is good sometimes. What I do like is the section under your profile that shows all your achievements per game in a long row.

Other than that, MEH.

I wish Bethesda would patch New Vegas. F!&^%# buggy game!

I haven't had my Xbox on in almost a month.  Stupid Kirby taking up all of my video game time.

I like the new look.  I LOVE ESPN3! Now if they would just get MLB.tv so I won't have to buy a PS3 next season!

So what do you think their next step in catching Nintendo will be, rolling their hardware back a full generation and removing any decent multiplayer options?  >:D

Well it surely won't be to release fun, timeless games that everyone can enjoy.  Niether m$ or sony has been able to do that in their companies histories.

OMG!!!!

ok, the look, dont give a crap, but the ESPN section?!?!!?!?!?

AMAZING!

ok, I'll stop typing like that now. With the ESPN section you can watch highlights, recaps, live games, and you can watch games you missed in HD. College football, NFL, Hockey, etc Even off-the-wall stuff like the 2010 Judo world championships. I also downloaded and signed up for netflix, prolly the best $9 a month I'll ever spend, and I dont plan on actually ordering any DVDs in the mail, lol.

It's a shame I'm not a big sports fan. This new ESPN has a LOT of stuff.

Well, I do prefer my xbox over nintendo stuff but I have to say that the split screen and multiplay on the Xbox and PS is pretty weak - most of the multiplayer is done online, but IMO that's a whole different experience.

And I don't think many games these days will ever be timeless, regardless of platform.

Heh... my guess is absolutely nobody would agree with you on that one, but you are entitled to your opinion.

But getting back to my point, this is obviously a "mii too" ploy from them and they failed because they don't get it.  They thought making everything look white and flat would appeal to the wii crowd, when the wii crowd simply put up with the white and flat (actually the wii interface is nicely curved) interface to get to the fun games.

And to be honest, the Kinetix lineup doesn't really merit a custom look.  Their launch games are pathetic... look like wii sports rip-offs only we are over that type of game by now.  I saw a single serious game (a street fighter) and once I saw the gameplay video I was immediately underwhelmed.  This was a bad move for m$.  sony will fair a little better because they did what they do best.  They did a 1 to 1 copy of the wiimote and then blatently deny that they are in any way similar.  For some reason people have always eaten that up.

Buddy at work is a PS3 fanboy more or less.  Apparently he's made that ridiculous claim that "it's going to be totally different!"  ::)

I don't care for the new look either of the 360.  I do not like sharp angles.  They look very chintzy for a next-gen console.  Plus I have a black MW2 console.  Everyone knows the saying.  I can't go back now.  The whiteness is lame.

I did managed to break it.  I went back into settings and changed the display profile (I have a projector and cannot get it to display 1080) and the thing just wigged out and my old profile was back.

Something odd happened to the background as I went to download the Kinect video live software it had to reinstall that huge download thrice.

Weird.

Anyone managed to get a better resolution from HDMI instead of VGA?  I cannot get any higher than 1920x1080 for the LED monitor + HDMI.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I would assume 1080p is as high as a 1080p console will go.

I agree, and it applied to pretty much every Wii game, and all the PS3 Move games as well.

Agreed... I didn't like the white color scheme at launch time, but we were stuck with it.  Now we have black 360's with improved controllers and black wii's with integrated motion plus controllers.  But all my accessories are white, so it's unlilkely I'll switch.
