I am getting ready to build my control panel and It will be a 4 player unit.  I will be installing a trackball further down the road. I am wondering how much room I need to leave underneath the control panel between P1 and P2 controls to be able to mount the trackball later.

Probably depends upon your trackball and if you are using a mounting plate.

(ie) Happ 3" mounting plate is 6.5" wide.

I have a 3" Happs Trackball for my cabinet and my Control panel is currently 4" deep which has plenty of room. I would keep the depth to a minimun of 3.5" so that you have enough room underneath for your keyboard encoder and wires.

The U-Trak looks to have a footprint of 145mm x 145mm. (Approx 5.71" x 5.71").
