Are you Egyptian, taking frequent trips to Egypt and live with a room-mate who posts on a blogs how easy it would be to bomb malls in the US?  If your answer is no, then I wouldn't sweat it.

The only thing of concern here is whether or not they should require a warrant to do the car tracking.

If you are innocent, you have nothing to fear.  Move along, citizen.

If you are innocent, then you shouldn't be subject to this kind of search. Of course, the whole S&S thing with cars has always been a bit of a tug-of-war.

Just a thought though.... Don't X-rays cause cumulative damage to the human body? In other words, when you hop into the doctors office for that X-ray, they cover your child producing parts with a nice heavy apron of lead. I'm reasonably certain you don't get the same kind of coverage when you walk through the X-ray scanner or get bombarded by the ZBV's. Am I missing something with the application of X-rays here?

I feel like I'm headed towards a chapter in I, Robot with a touch of 1984.

ya, i aways feel a little uneasy when my junk is getting irradiated with x-rays... then i think about all the sex I could be having, and not worrying about any more kids.... then it seems not so bad.  :laugh2:

Just to follow up, my response was in regards to the student's car being tracked, not the xray van.

Backscatter Xray tech is what they are using in the airports (no doubt youve heard about the scanners that "see through clothes" that was all over the news last year). The long term effects of these is unknown, but I'd be more worried about standing inside one of those scanners than I would be about some random van roaming around.

Speaking about the airport back-scatter scanners, here is what happens if you refuse to go through it:

My only question is did the feds have the right to ask for the equipment back?  Or is this a case of finders-keepers.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

I think being secretly x-rayed goes against your rights.

On another note, my fiance has a certificate in radiation safety that's hung on the wall... people always ask about that one, it's hilarious. But yeah, it's just for x-ray stuff though I tell people she's studying Gamma radiation.

Supposedly, the supreme court shot down this sort of thing a long time ago.

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,130987,00.html

The only difference with now is that this is an x-ray instead of an infrared ray as in the case before, and cars instead of houses. (Cars still require a search warrant exactly the same as a house. And only reasonable suspicion can overrule the need for a warrant.)

They still helicopter over farms in the boonies with infra-red detectors, checking for cannabis growing operations.

seems awful open ended doesn't it??

cop: hi, mind if i look in your house??
you: uhm, i don't think so officer!
cop: i have reason to suspect you are a drug dealer, out of the way!

repeat for access to anybody's house. (1)

there seems to be a real lapse in simple human rights acknowledgement when it comes to the law, some pretty stupid stuff is being allowed to happen LEGALLY.

Note 1: may or may not be legal for the "everyman" consult your local authorities who will lie (2) to you anyway and give you the runaround and tell you it's not okay to barge into someones house without permission..

Note 2: authorities may or may not lie to you. be sure to consult your common sense (3) before deciding.

Note 3: common sense may or may not be right for you. consult your doctor to determine if common sense is right for you. results may vary. common side effects include but not limited to: realization of the truth, avoiding injury, and general good feelings of happiness.

You are right, X ray are cumulative damage to an extent.  I am in medical physics and I can attest to that.  This is becoming quite a bit like 1984.  For the most part, media doesn't report on news like this, and when they do it is only a footnote.  I go to this site called infowars.com they report on all kinds of stuff like this.

Here is another interesting article on the matter. Apparently, this "X-ray van" company will sell these vans to whoever will pay the price.
