Who's ready for sonic the hedgehog 4 next week?
« on: October 04, 2010, 12:58:25 am »
Any one else pumped fpr sonic 4 next monday? I really hate the whole download concept (I would rather have a disk) but I love the original sonic series for the genesis. I will have this as soon as it shows up on the download channel. :guitar::guitar::guitar:

Also waiting on sonic colors next month.

Great!
SEGA outsmarted Nintendo! Wiitendo makes profit for Nintendo impossible last year, so who's the smartypants here?
SEGA just sells on all platforms, and lets others take the loss on hardware.

And about this game: It looks totally sonic and it looks totally Japanese, totally lightspeed and totally bullit-hell! Awesome! Supermario = PAWNED with its outdated Americanish kindergarten looks!

BTW: I hope it has the 8-bit GameGear Sonic 1+2 soundtrack as option. The best sonic soundtracks ever! 8-bit is so 2010!

Yeah, because the financial failures of the SegaCD, 32X, Saturn and Dreamcast (somewhat) were what they had planned all along....  ::)

He runs right on a 2D plane, he goes fast, he gets rings, he jumps on bad guys.  Man, how did Sega fail to see what a good formula this was since 1995? |:

Episodic = no thanks.

After they are all released, then I will consider it depending on the pricing, but my guess is it will be too high a price for something that won't be all that great.

Man, how did Sega fail to see what a good formula this was since 1995? |:

I highlighted your answer for you.  That was the beginning of the whole "let's make everything 3-D" generation.  If it only moved in two axes, no one would want to buy it (so they thought) - even though it took Sega 4 years to follow suit.   And people loved Sonic Adventures at first, but it didn't hold up well for long.   But Sega just kept tapping that well as long as they could...

The whole resurgence of 2D gaming seems to be a relatively recent trend, which is probably why this is only coming out now.

not me part one & knuckles was enough 15+ years ago but no pun intended.

No pun detected.

I actually really liked Sonic Adventure... the games after that just never seemed to capture the feeling that SA had.  Plus, I hated  knuckle's levels, and operating that machine with Tails =/

If they made a sonic adventure type game with just sonic and like SA 1 that would be great! I hope sonic colors is just that

You mean the Sonic 3 with the Sonic and Knuckles Mod?  Is there a separate rom for the Sonic and Knuckles mod?

you could play sonic 3 with knuckles by inserting the sonic 3 game into the sonic and knuckles game. Sonic 2 also worked. When playing as knuckles you could access different areas. And Sonic CD > Sonic or and or 3 and or any variation of S&K

I know I use to have a S&K cart, but never had the Sonic 3 cart.  Is there a separate rom for the combination?

Sure we do.

It's not like those machines running MAME or the like are solely running on awesome (or those "genuine imitation pinball" cabs either for that matter).

We just don't discuss where to get them. :P

kk. there are multiple ROMs. basically you can make your own if you know how to attach the 2 roms together. the merged rom can be found in the usual places. Sonic CD is still better

Well I went and picked up a Genesis 2 and a copy of Sonic 2, Im looking for S&K, we shall see how good Sonc 3 and Knuckles is.  I also got a second controller and a copy of TMNT Tournament Fighters but the Ninja Turtles didnt work  :(

35 for the whole set, im going back tomorrow and see if they have another copy of the TMNT Tournament fighters at the shop I picked it up at.

They have a Dreamcast there too for 40 but no games so I cant test it to see if it works before I buy it.  What are the good things you can do with a DC other than playing burned DC games?

i think some people developed a way to play snk games on the dreamcast, nintendo, snes, and maybe genesis..

The dreamcast games alone make it worth it imo

I preferred the SNES version to the genesis version of the Tournament Fighters. I liked the characters more, and the graphics were better.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Played a little bit of the Wii version today - it's not bad, but it's definitely not Sonic's best, either. The controls take a while to get used to, especially since the auto lock can't be turned off, causing you to make a few misplaced jumps here and there. The graphics are nice, and provide a nice retro feel, a la NSMB. Music is definitely Sonic - cheezy and poppy at their respective finest. Overall, not a bad first 2D console outing in close to 16 years.

I like it.
Been playing the Wii version.
I've got 2 Chaos Emeralds so far, and having to play
those levels over, and over again I'm thankful for the
stage select.

Sonic purists be damned, I'm having FUN with the game.  It's just a shame that it doesn't have any sorta multiplayer.

I agree on wishing it was multiplayer -kid took it over the other night, and I haven't had a chance to get back to it yet- maybe tomorrow.

1500 Wii Points is a lot -don't know because of the controls if it was  worth that or not.  Something feels / looks wrong with Sonic in spin attack and when he's jumping / falling to me.  Not a purist, but it just doesn't play quite like I hoped it would somehow.  Also, how do you get to try for the chaos emeralds? I had 50 rings plus when I ran by a balloon, but it seemed to not register that fact (no sparkly ring to jump through, etc).

So far I've spent maybe a half hour with it- maybe I'll feel different when I have a little more time with it tomorrow and over the weekend (I hope)!

You have to carry the 50 or more rings
all the way to the end of stage signpost,
where a giant ring is waiting for you to jump into.

I've enjoyed it but the final boss fight has made me turn off the 360 in frustration.  It's like 20x harder than anything else in the game and I've wasted some 25 lives on it thus far.  I can even blast through the repeated first four fights without dieing, and there's a check point between each one.  But the last one with the robot?  That is a HUGE fight and he takes an insane ammount of hits while you don't get a single check point in any of that.  It's just... Aurg.  It's so hard it ruins my fun.

I'm guessing you've only played Sonic 2 before.   ;)   One and CD had it at the ends of levels (assuming you had 50 rings) while 3 had them hidden around the level.

I'm a little weary about spending $15.  I like Sonic but I go back to play the old games and I get kind of bored with it.   I'm on the fence with this one.

I'm far more satisfied with the $15 I spent on Sonic 4 than the $15 I spent on Metal Slug XX.  Man that was SUCH a lazy port.  And bilineir filtering ONLY.  Can't even get crispy pixels on it. |:

I'm disappointed by the way sonic moves it's slow and very awkward. Once he gets his speed shoes he speeds up to par with the old games. Basically sonic was fast I don't know what the sonic team was thinking.

Just for the record, I've playd a little of all of them - as I said elsewhere in a post, I'm horrible in that it's rare that I finish a game.  I just hadn't seen any mention of the chaos emeralds even being a part of this new game.

Amazingly enough, I still am not as crazy about it as I wanted to be - I still agree with those saying the controls are off / "clunky".  I don't know that I like the "homing" mechanism....don't need some "gun sight" to show me which enemy to hit / rock to break.  I do think the level select is nice, and the labyrinth stage seems to be a nice new look.

$15 though is very steep, I think , for no more new than what they brought to the table, and for as goofy as Sonic looks to me in movement - would have been far better priced at 800 - 1000 pts.

And the leaderboards have already been spammed with cheaters.  Guys posting times of 0'00"00 to get #1.  That really sucks the fun out of leaderboards.

And there you have the #1 reason I don't participate in those online leader boards.
