NFL Last Man Standing Pick 'Em 2010

[Hoopz]

Chad's ran this since he started it but he isn't interested in running it this year.  I'm going to run it for us.

Rules are simple.  Choose one game each week.  Pick the winner.  If you are wrong you are eliminated from the game.  Last man standing wins.  I will keep track of everyone's picks each week and display them by editing this post.  

When making a pick, highlight it in the post, so that they're easier to pick out.  I don't want to miss anyone's pick.

A pick must be made every week.  Failure to make a pick results in elimination.   Picks should be posted in this thread so that people have the ability to double check my work.

You cannot pick a game with the same team two weeks in a row.  If you pick the Rams over the Titans in week 2, you cannot use either the Rams game or the Titans game in week 3.

Entrant pool closes an hour preceding the game you want to pick.  That means that if you want to pick Thursday's game this week you must do so at least an hour before the game starts.  Forum timestamps will be binding.

I don't mind running it since it gives me something to do after I pick the wrong team in week 3.

Living in Indy, I can say that I'm not convinced that the Colts are as good as they've been in the past.  I honestly think the Texans can beat them this week.  I did notice that no one picked the Colts to win this week.  It's definitely not a gimme.

I think it's hard to say who is strong this year on both sides of the ball after one game.  This week should tell us if NE is a top team, where Tenn is at, the deal with Houston, how bad the Dolts are etc.  And that's just the AFC.

So do I start McFadden (vs. STL) or Nicks (@IND) this week?  I can't decide and Michael Bush (the other Raiders RB) is going to be a gametime decision whether he plays.  If McFadden is the primary back for the whole game he should have another good day.  Nicks has been out this week as far as practicing but he is definitely playing and the Giants will definitely be throwing it around.  I can't decide!!!

javeryh - I'm leaning towards eliminating you from the "competition" unless the others decide to give you a pass.  I don't want to be an ass about it and I feel bad because I should have caught it before the games started which would have given you a chance to pick another game.

I'm not going to ask anyone to post their thoughts about what we should do.  I don't want anyone feeling pressured one way or the other. They can PM if they want to say what should happen.  This is all for fun so I hope nobody gets all worked up about it.

Perhaps select the hardest game(s) to select as a group, and have him pick one?  Of course, you'll have to come to an agreement quickly.

That's the only sensible pick this week.  I'm not allowed to pick New Orleans over Cleveland so I'll go with:

yeah - it's also why I got in trouble for my original strategy of picking whoever is playing the Bills!  Next week looks tough.  The only sane picks are probably Dallas (which is actually insane sine they are 1-4) and Tennessee.  All of the games look pretty even!

I like Malenko's suggestion that if you both pick the same team to win, you have to pick a 2nd game to be the tie breaker if your first choice loses.  Thoughts on that?

I shouldn't have said "lock" - I meant best bet since Jacksonville is really really really bad (but I guess so are the Cowboys now).   They are still 6.5 favorites as of today, on the road, without Romo.  Still, the biggest spread of the week is the Kansas City/Buffalo game.  If it was in Buffalo I'd say it was a trap game since the Bills have the ability to win at least 1 game this year and Kansas City is an up and coming team (and up and coming teams always lose games they "should" win and win or hang real close in games they "should" lose).  Too bad we can't pick that game.  If we stay away from Dallas since they are in complete disarray the next biggest spread is the Jets -6 against Green Bay!  That is insane.  The match-ups this week are crazy.

And that game is hardly a lock.  Both of those teams are up and down this year.  Shoot, it could be a tie which would screw him too.

I am still undecided!!  I'll take the JETS over the Packers for now but I'm likely to change before game time.  If Tavaris Jackson plays I might look at the Patriots but even that's a toss up - the Vikings have to be desperate.
