Reliable source for 19" CGA crts?
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:38:58 pm »
Unfortunately it appears they are phasing out CRTs. Who are reliable sources for new ones these
days? Didnt they used to cost $200. I dont see them now for less then $300.

Are there any reliable sources left ?

8-liners is about all I can think of in terms of reasonable prices, but reviews are mixed.

Obviously not what you are looking for, but if you can't find a CGA source, you could install a 31kHz display and use a converter.

Oooo, anyone know what Billabs is charging for those? Either CGA or Tri-sync.

Just give them a call. They're more than happy to work with you and go over what their product line is and prices. I forget what they were asking as at the time I was considering buying new from them I got a killer deal on a working cab which I basically bought just for the monitor, which was perfect...

Their site had been down for a while I was wondering if they had closed down, glad its back up. I bought a 24.8" Tri-sync from them a few years ago, seemed like good people.

I picked up a new 19" cga from 8liners for 170 shipped. I'll let you know how it
works when it gets here.

I'll have to give Billabs a call for my next one.

Damn that sounds like a good price.

I didn't find much info on their page, does anyone know what brand these are, do they require an isolation transformer and what kind of video input connection they have?

There's still Jen Shinn for monitors:

And Japandeal has them too:

Didn't see any 19s  :(

I emailed Billabs about 6 weeks ago asking if they still sold 19" CRTs (they're still listed on their website) and never got a reply.

You can generally use a 20" to replace a 19" monitor.

In the future we may end up having to make do with some alternatives to true arcade-purposed monitors and look into some other industries.

The first thing that comes to mind is a SCART TV manufacturer.  Isn't there anyone in the world who still makes 19" TV's with SCART connectors?

Option number two is the Professional video equipment scene.  A ton of professional video monitors have RGB inputs and support 15khz modes.

There is the idea of performing RGB>component colorspace conversion.  As long as you can find a 19" CRT in the US with component inputs this is also a very usuable solution and will allow 240p modes.

I have been told that there are no worldwide sources for new 19" CRT's.  It's just a matter of time until no one has them.
