A question about HyperSpin
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:04:41 pm »
Hey, I just finished watching this awesome video of HyperSpin and I got to say that I am impressed!

Would having such system require me to manually find each rom and artwork and make them work together or are there ready made packs?

Well as I understand it finding the rom's is up to you and the Hyperspin website (or any front end website) wont be able to help with that.  Because mame uses a standard naming convention (correct mame roms will always be named the same) the artwork you download from hyperspin's site and videos from emumovies or wherever should match with your rom set pretty easily.  For other systems this may be a little more difficult.  I think hyperspin uses the no-intro naming convention for most rom based game sets and the tosec naming for cd based sets.  Im sure someone from the hyperspin team will be able to help more with this though, I am still trying hyperspin and working on figuring it out.

All front ends are like this, i cant think of one that comes with any (more than minimum) artwork

depends on what systems you want to setup and whether you want art and videos for all systems. Underground gamer provides a complete art and video set in one package for many many systems. It's a huge download though (about 100gbs).  You still need to find your own games though.

Mame is the easiest to setup and it's pretty easy if your other roms are no-intro.  CD based systems are mostly a pain to setup.  But it's worth it.

  • Still using screenshots? Try EmuMovies instead.

Clrmame pro now supports hyperspin xml files, so matching your roms to the artwork packs is a no brainer.

Yeah I'd have liked to have signed up to that too but seems a no go with the user limit.  Oh well 3 months into making my first arcade cab with Hyperspin as Frontend and I'm almost there!  Got about 1TB of stuff on there now, god only knows how many games and systems but I have videos for most of them and themes for about half.  Just pay the small donation to Hyperspin and you can download all of the themes, wheels, artwork etc. and then do the same with EmuMovies and you can get all the corresponding videos.  Make sure you work out how to use clrmamapro - it's a big help!!!
