Nailgun!
« on: August 06, 2010, 10:48:17 am »
Anyone else have a nailgun? Mine's just a dinky one for shooting finish nails, but it was free [came with my 2 gallon air compressor - $99 on sale]. I've had it for about a year now and it's well used. I actually got it to help with my renos putting up the trim but I haven't made it that far yet... got laid off so my cab hasn't even been started yet nor have my renos been completed.

I have however used it to build some of my studio furniture - an equipment rack, my microphone locker. The nails are weak but I use it to pin down things that are glued, keeps the clamps out of the way and lets me continue working on things as the glue dries. I would recomend one to anybody.

I have a Bostitch SB2IN1 that I used for my build. It can do 18ga brads or staples.

I have a 30 gallon compressor so one tank can last all night. I bought it for the fact that I need one for molding in the basement... the cabinet was a close second!

I got mine on Amazon for 1/3 of the cost of a new one because it was a refurb. I actually bought a brand new one first and compared them. There was no difference what so ever. I'm not a contractor, so I wont stress it too much. Good stuff, man. They are fun.

I own Porter Cable finish nailer and framing nailer, as well as a Bostitch palm nailer.

The finish nailer was used on my cocktail build a little bit. Like you mostly to tack things in place while glue dried. I don't recall using it for my upright.

The framer though got a major workout for my H.T. build. The palm nailer, while only occasionally put into action, is one of those things that's worth its weight in gold...sure saves a lot of frustration and smashed fingers  ::)

Oh, and my favorite tool of all for the H.T. was the Ramset Powder Actuated Concrete Nailer.   :duckhunt

I just picked up a Porter Cable 16 gauge a few months ago from Home Depot and have been happy with it so far.
Though on this Arcade Project for fastners Ive only used Drywall screws (1", 1 1/4" and 1 5/8"), Glue, and Dados.  :dunno
