Swords and sandals FTW
Although, since this movie is set in northern Britain, it's more 'swords and boots' I guess.
Movie is set in 117 AD. The Romans are at a standstill, and can't seem to push any further north. The general of the 9th regiment, played by Dominic West (Mcnulty in 'The Wire') is given orders to go on one more offensive. Along the way he finds the centurion, played by Michael Fassbender (That suave British agent in 'Inglorious Basterds), who has just escaped from the Picts. Adventures ensue
I like how in the battles, there isn't much of that old 'clink, clank, clink' sword fighting going on you sometimes see. It's one huge crack to the head and half your skull flies off, much like it probably was. Very bloody. They also avoided the temptation of throwing in every Roman innovation in there, like catapults, ballistas etc. The Roman dialog was good, full of that sort of ribald humour the Romans were fond of.
I hadn't even seen this one advertised anywhere. Just noticed it when looking online for cinema times.
