If all goes well, I will be working for a small (right now) tutoring academy in south GA, teaching music (my passion) and a bit of math (my other delight) to students.  It is a dream job, and there is NO other way to describe it.

I couldn't wait to tell you all this too - she asked me if I'd ever done any building (the students are building a recording studio for themselves so they'll have something fun to do as a result of finishing all their work), and I told her about buidling the arcade machine....and the next thing out of her mouth was "That'd be a great project for the guys here to do. Is it very expensive?"  If you think I'm not in seventh heaven over that, you are very much wrong!

I am VERY blessed - if this goes well she hopes to expand to my current neighborhood as well in the future.  I may have finally found my 40 year job!

Not trying to keep this thread running, but I had to say thank you for the support!  Likewise to say that it became official yesterday morning!

The job more or less found me, and had it not been for my wife,  I would have missed it. I have to share this story:

I guess it was two months ago that this whole journey started. My wife learned of the GA Government's job subsidy program online, and decided we both should register. She filled out her form - AND MINE - and told me to sign it. I say this all tongue in cheek, because looking back on it I was the one being stubborn and lazy, and she had every right to do it....but man that made me mad. However, we sent them both in and waited.

For some reason yet unknown to me, Fulton's DFACS was in charge of this. At any rate about two weeks later they called and wanted to talk to me. Turns out only one person per family can play, and it was me....and I was made even madder by that. I didn't want to work for the government!

At the end of June, I suppose it was, I had to go in for the orientation - and believe you me, I was NOT at all happy. "Why wasn't this my wife's lot, I thought, it was HER idea!" I had decided if I could get out of it early I would. However that was not to be the case. The lady leading the orientation stopped at one point and told everybody "You are going to be where God wants you to be. He has a plan for your life and you cannot get away from it." I just couldn't believe her passion for Christ....being a christian myself, it won me over, and I decided to stay for the whole day.

Three weeks passed and nothing really happened (I was sent to one daycare center, but it did not work out as I teach older kids) ....but it just so happened that when I called to speak to my job coach last week, she was in the office. We talked a while and she told me about these tutoring jobs she had, one paying $20 an hour, the other $25. She informed me to get my resume to her as soon as possible. Needless to say, I did. To make a long story very short, God showed me a place that same week (last week) where I needed to change my attitude (as did my buddy Job: "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord). As I worked that weekend to get my vision clear, my new boss called me sometime Saturday, and we spoke for the first time Sunday.

We got together Tuesday, and personally I knew we were already on the same page. As I listened to her talk, I couldn't get anything to run through my head except "I'm right behind you. Just tell me what you want me to do here and I'll do it." Now she's told me - primarily Music with a bit of Math, and I cannot wait to get started! They've already started work on a recording studio down there that looks REALLY nice. I"ll help finish that out and help with choosing equipment.

Will be working 1-7 on Mon - Thursday, and Saturdays from 9-3. This gives the wife and I time to clean house, go to breakfast, etc. during the school year after dropping our daughter off; I won't have to leave until 11:30 to get down there!

So, old stubborn boy here got put in his place again. This is a dream job, no two ways about it - and to think, I almost missed it because I didn't like the fact my wife filled out my application and had me sign it.  Sometimes they DO know better than we do guys. :)

  • I glow in the dark.
Start putting money away as soon as you can.  Get a savings account you can put 20bucks away every week or so.

This will be a cushion for you when the next lay off happens.

I'm not saying you will, but with the ever changing face of the economy - you never know.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Ark, that's excellent advice - don't worry about that being taken the wrong way, my wife and I have already agreed to having a bugdet and part of that is putting as much away as we can into savings.  We don't have a lot of debt on hand either, so we're planning to pay that off as quick as possible.

Even if we hadn't already thought of that, your advice would be well received. One is not assured of the job tomorrow even, so definitely plan ahead! :D

Well done.  In the job market myself now.  I hope I find such a great fit for myself (and hopefully I won't have to work nearly so hard for it  ;) ).
