Help! Wii stuck on First screen health and safety and won't let me hit A

I haven't hacked my Wii and all i can find online for help are "fix your brick" videos and web pages

any suggestions to anyone?  I figured I come here first and see if anyone had the same issue and resolved it.

i went to nintendo.com and can't even get into their forums it is a mess over there

thanks in advance.

I've not yet heard of that issue UNLESS you screwed up the softmod potentially.

There should be options for you.  Check the gbatemp.net forums.

Did you check that your wiimote didn't lose sync with the system?

This.

Definitely try to re-sync your remote to the unit.  Open the battery compartment on your Wiimote, open the SD card slot on the Wii, press the red button next to the SD card slot, and then press the red button inside the battery compartment.

Ok guys thanks for all the responses.  Funny thing happened last nite.  I was taking a quick video (on my motorola droid because it is quick that way) and I powered the Wii up with the power button on the remote. You can see it powers up but never gives you the option to press A button to move on to the next screen.

I power down the Wii on the console itself (the remote won't power down for some reason)

I then power it back up while holding down the Reset button and clicking on the A Button on the Wii Remote and Walla it worked. I have no idea how i figured this out or if it is going to fix the issue at all but if anyone has had the same issue let me know and maybe we can figure out this mess together.

I really hope this is the fix.  I am going to keep testing it each night this week.  BTW I never hacked this or did any mods to this Wii. I used this Wii for my World Records and if you do any mods or homebrew or anything disqualifies ya.

I'm definitely a little confused.  If you notice, when you first turned it on, the press A dialog didn't start flashing on the screen at all.

Just checked my own.  When powering it on both with the Wiimote (but without pressing another button to actually forge the wireless connection and turn the Wiimote on) and the console power button, both methods resulted in the A button dialog blinking on the screen within a second or so.

Yours didn't do it at all.  Which makes me think something was up with the console for whatever reason.  Perhaps you "reset" something when you did what you did that helped make it work.

Ok all,

Just so you know I tried it again tonight but it didn't work.  The Wii starts up (powers up) but the A button never shows up.  I have tried the reconnecting the controller.  I have tried unplugging the power.  I have tried the reset button trick in the video above.

Nothing looks like it is working.  I haven't attempted to mod this wii at all.  Looks like I am going to have to order up a fresh new one.

I wonder if I can ebay this thing for someone else to mod or something.  It seems like it is an operating system problem and I read some where it is 75 bucks from nintendo to fix.  I can't even get someone to contact me back from Nintendo.  Such a bummer because I have an original atari 2600 that still works mint.

I hate to say it and it makes me sound old.  But they don't make things like they use to.

Looks like I am going to bite the bullet and buy a new Wii.

I might get the black one Next week to match my other console on the one TV.

So bummed about shelling out more cash.  Taking away from my other projects but I have to finish my World Record runs.

If anyone finds a fix or if more people start getting these issues at least we started a thread for it.

Thanks guys

oh man that is a really good idea.  I have never done something like this before.  Will I need to wipe all my stats clean?

it sounds risky.  I don't want to sound like a prude but for 200 bucks can't i get into trouble for this?

Good points.  Maybe if I use an online retailer.  So I won't have to be face to face with someone. I won't feel as bad?  I don't know.  I guess posting here is incriminating evidence hahahha.

I am watching to many Law and Order re-runs

I had someone tell me that I definately have to send it back to Nintendo and have the OS reinstalled.  I didn't do anything wrong or anything so I totally understand that if i don't.  I am the one screwed out of the deal.

Did you buy yours online?

Go buy a new one, stick your old one in the box, and return it for a refund.

Don't all stores scan the serial number now? I don't think this can be done.

I think it depends on the retailer and the item.  For years, I wondered if people would buy an expensive item like a video card and then return an older one.  I know Circuit City started scanning serial numbers before they closed.  I've seen Best Buy do it too.  Wal-Mart?  Nope, I haven't seen them do it.

And you won't get in trouble for doing it.  Pay in cash and they won't even know who you are.  Even if they do say something, you can always play dumb and say it's the wrong one,  you got confused, etc.

Don't just roll your eyes. Obviously my post made it sound as though I wasn't sure, because I wasn't. I asked a question and was waiting for someone to clarify.

That is really funny.  I actually wimped out and bought a new one and not going to do the swap-a-ro.   I can't bring myself to do it.

I am open now for everyone to make fun of me.  Let me have it I deserve it.

Thanks B.  I just can't do it. I have way to much at stake to try to pull off scaming a company like this.  And I can only hope there will be a fix for it in the future.

Congrats on getting screwed and asking for more.

But seeing an attitude like Brent's around here makes me think, "This is someone I would do business with."

I've dealt with some real honest folks on here, and it's always nice to see more of them.

It was 75 bucks to fix but I had to pay for shipping too.  For 200 bucks I just bought a new one and wait for a fix for my other one. I am sure others will have these problems soon.

Or I might ebay it for 50 bucks because I am sure there is someone out there that knows how to fix it easy seeing it isn't a hardware problem.

In the future, I'd suggest calling Nintendo and seeing how much an out of warranty repair costs.  IIRC, for the DS, no matter what was wrong with it, it was $75 so long as you mailed an actual system in (even one that had been run over).
