My First Cabinet - Vewlix
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:06:51 am »
Started working on it sometime in may, took some time to figure out how to use all these tools right lol.

http://picasaweb.google.com/mariox2098/VewlixCustomSlim

Once i get the cash, I'm gonna get orange sanwa joysticks and buttons. The unpainted sides of the cabinet and the sides of the CP are going to be orange too. Il try and post new pics in the topic. Tell me what you think so far

Interesting design, I like it!

Am I right in assuming there's no t-molding with the extra width of the doubled up sides?

This looks AMAZING.  One question, though.  Is it just my eyes, or is the fourth button (third in the centre) of the Admin panel a bit out of line with the others?

Naw, its not your eyes lol, it is out of line. I realized that too after I cut the hole. Its not too bad though, right?

If it were me (and believe me, I'm irritatingly picky) I would be cursing and swearing, and doing it over.  If you don't mind it, of course, it's perfectly (as a friend's father once said) "within tolerance".  I love your work so far, and that's the only thing I really saw that stood out.

I agree with Rick but it really boils down to your mindset...me, if I get a dead pixel on a new tv or monitor I *CAN'T* stop looking at it...until I fix it...the main reason I replaced my WG D9800 with a new one is because I had scratched the glass, but im extremely anal (yet the inside of my cab looks like a hellstorm lol)...if you are ok with it...who cares...if you have even a doubt about it bugging you...replace it now ;)

Looks great otherwise!

You can always over-bore the hole and push the button up slightly. The rim on the button would cover up the hole, so when it is screwed in, you won't notice it.

That's one cool looking mini vewlix. I really like the color on this one, a little different from the usual. The two player set up looks (surprisingly) as comfortable as Spacehedgehog's 1 player set up.

I didn't even notice, I was too busy admiring the sexy look of this design!

I think you'll always notice small details other people won't even see, so I agree with what everyone else is saying, if it bugs you it's worth fixing.  If you can live with it, then don't sweat it!

I guess the third option would be to try and incorporate some design element to make it seem more "intentional".  But then again, if that wasn't done well, it may just highlight the difference  ;D

I'm just rambling now...  I really like your design!  Looks fantastic!

Nice call.  Or you can put arrows all around pointing to it.  Make it look intentional.

It fit two players surprisingly well, you should definitely make a second panel

So i did some shifting and it seems like that button is lined up now lol

I also cut out the CP artwork finally. I might reprint it though so the orange in the sun matches the orange on the arcade. Im gonna print the marquee artwork later today.

just another more complete looking picture (still lacking a monitor for now)

Sadly, im goin back to school tommorow so that halts everything till thanksgiving break  :( but i will finish everything then. Thanks for all the feedback!

Originality goes up to 11 on this one.

NICE WORK!  I might clone it :-)

Curious, did you laminate wood for sides of the orange uprights?  if so, how thick did you make it?  I thought I was thinking a bit out of the box but you take the cake compared to me.

Curious, what size LCD are you going to use?  Any plans/dimensions?  Even something tossed together with 5 minutes in MS Paint would be appreciated.

The woodworking wasn't very difficult at all. This was my first time using a router and my second time using a circular saw. So I am pretty much a beginner, im sure you can do it too.

That thing looks damn sexy man. Dig the Champloo CP as well.

Guessing you're looking at a 26" or so for the monitor?

What are you planning on throwing inside of it? Just PC or are you planning on wiring up a console as well?

I don't usually get too excited about Viewlix's but I think it's the color scheme on this that's doing it for me.

Looks good man! You mentioned a 26 inch decased tv/monitor. Definitely go for that if you can (seriously thinking about upgrading mine with one of those). Also, if you're going to drive this pimarily with an XBOX 360 or PS3, think about going for a 720p tv rather than full HD monitor - the image mapping is much better/clearer and the viewing angles for tv's on the vertical axis tend to be better than a monitor's (well at lest when I compare mine anyway). If it's just the PC that you're currenly using, that's a different matter.... (I was hoping that CAPCOM were going to relase all their games for the PC - SSF4, MVC3, SF x Tekken etc - looks like that's not going to happen now sadly  :'( )

Almost there, only a few cosmetic things left (mount marquee, cover up the back, etc.) Ended up settling for the 24" monitor, didnt feel like worrying over breaking something decasing it
