I watched Avatar for the first time the other night.....
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:32:16 pm »
I finally watched Avatar for the first time the other night on our outdoor movie screen.  :applaud:

I made it into the movie for about 35 minutes.

I cant understand what all the hype was about this movie.  :badmood:

People from Earth are after a mineral under a big tree on another planet but the big tree is inhabited by tall blue half man/lizard people. YAWN!

Avatar off, on to Undercover Brother! I didnt have one objection to turning Avatar off! There were 12 people over to watch it and they all had the same feeling!

Not a fan either. Went to theater without any bias towards it as I didn't hear anything about the movie, and was interestred only for the 3d aspect of it. It totaly made me cringe, especially when people in theatre were claping because humans were dying! Weird. And the poor humans went out of their way to convince the stubborn blue morons, to just let them get the "useless" to them stuff and they would leave peacefully.
I like how some critic called it a "blue turd" that's how I feel about the movie.

I still haven't seen it even though I now own the dvd, but I'll probably watch it in the next week or two.  I got the dvd for my birthday last week from my parents even though I've never mentioned the movie to them and they even turned it off when they tried to watch it.  I dunno, I guess they just caught onto the hype of the dvd release.  It's the same reason I own a copy of Jurassic Park 3.

It's probably going to be like that.... What was that movie again... umm... It was Star Something... Star Battle? No that's not it. Star Fight? Damn it, I just can't remember.

I guess some people do like the Pocahontas type storyline. Besides, so what if many people like Avatar for the great visuals and impressive effects? Obviously, if you watch it on a half assed screen with crappy sound then you lose that and not much of the movie's appeal is left. Duh!

I didnt mention that one reaseon I didnt see it in the theaters is that I'm red/green color blind (or color confused). Watching in 3D isnt an option for me.

3D films at the movies nowadays dont rely on the red/green lenses on the glasses - they use 2 projectors, each polarised in a different direction, and glasses to match. I dont think you'll be affected.

(I quite liked the movie! Shhh....)

Yeah, not just "nowadays", but even the 3D movies in the eighties used polarized glassed

Regardless of colorblindness, shouldn't the red/blue glasses still work? They work on the process of subtractive filtering; a color of light should be absorbed by the filter, leaving only the other color to come through. How it's interpreted by the viewer should have no difference on the perception of spacial difference.

I just saw this for the first time as well.  It was ok, very predictable.

I didn't have high expectations, but for a movie that made as much many as it did, I did expect a little better.

Was Titanic any better though?

All I can say is yes, I have seen Fern Gully, and changing the fairies to big smurfs can't save the weak storyline.

...however the 3d effects and special effects were what the hype was about, I can't remember anyone saying anything more than it looks amazing. Which is does. So I guess I'll give it credit where it's due. For me personally, it wasn't worth the $15 to go see.

I've got 20/800 vision in one eye.  3D of any flavor doesn't work for me.  Can we ban it?

Seriously, I've not seen Avatar and am not sure I have any interest it in.  Seems like more hype than substance.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

Avatar was Dances with Wolves.....in space.  The only real difference is that Avatar puts a face on the antagonist while Dances with Wolves does not.  Plus the protagonist has a few "helpers".

I saw Avatar in the theater in 3D and was very impressed by the visuals.  I enjoyed the movie experience itself.  It definitely worth watching but yea its pretty predictable and I would never nominate it for any awards per se other than special effects/3D.

I just saw it recently for the first time in BluRay. It is the best my thing visually I have seen on my newest TV (46" Sony 1080p LCD / 120Hz). I had a bias leaning against it going in...mostly because I knew nothing about it other than everybody in the world whacked off over it. That being said, it was entertaining. My 7 year old loved it...most I've heard him get into a movie since he first saw my Indiana Jones box set. I had heard a lot of people say that it wasn't for kids, but wife and I watched it first and agreed that our's had seen worse.
You probably remember me from such films as `The Revenge of Abe Lincoln' and `The Wackiest Covered Wagon in the West'
