Bookies cab to 360 cab
« on: May 30, 2010, 05:52:08 pm »
Just finished this. Let me know what you think  ;D

Its started out like a red version of this

Somebody had painted it black, with the screen bezel 3 different shades of silver, glued on a plastic CP, stuck a cheap Mame PC in and sold it on for £650! So when I picked it up it looked like this

Got it home, gutted it and threw out all ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- inside I didnt need! All I left was the power supply, the 31k screen and the 2 speakers. All the following went in the bin

Leaving me with this

8 cans of refrigerator paint later and we had

Thought I would colour the bezel differently so it would stand out more

Printed the Marquee off on photo paper

Bought a Sheet of steel from a DIY store for the new CP

It was too thivk for my jigsaw so I had to end up hacksawing it out and filing it down :lolz:

A guy off ebay printed out 2 sideart stickers for me for £10

I used some self adhesive vinyl to cover the CP and bought a few new buttons. Fortunately the sticks were Sanwa's anyway! Notice the custom dust guards :D

A sound amp, pad hack and VGA lead later and we have a nice new 360 cab to play KOF XII, Blazblue and SSFIV on :buttrock:

Final Price

Cab - £75
Spray Paint - £55
Sideart and CPO - £11
Sheet of Steel for CP - £7
Buttons and Balltop - £20
Sound Amp - £7
Pad Hack - £30

Grand Total - £205

Excellent work!  I like it, and you did it for a really good cost.  Was it not wide enough to make it 2 player, or did you only one 1 player?

Great of you to post this here as well, J69.  The one player panel is the way to go with candy cabs IMHO.

I'd stick a USB port on the underside of the control panel to plug in another joystick for 2 players, and keep it behind the coin door when not in use.

Wow, very nice...

I like the single player layout. My 2P cab will likely be 1 player 99% of the time anyway, I wish I had been brave enough to go 1P only.
In the works: Full sized Capcom fighter cab, QBert Mini Bartop, Bartop JAMMA / MVS1, Centipede Cocktail restoration

:notworthy: That is really nice, one player cab for a 360 is cool, I mean Xbox Live is all you need.   I see that you have the xbox outside the cab itself, have you thought of having a dedicated xbox inside the cab?  I would take the 360 motherboard out mount it, extend the dvd-drive, create a bay inside the cab for it, so you can eject the drive outside the cab, maybe under the control panel, get a WIFI 360 receiver.  Love the work you did, especially the control panel b/c of the Classic 6 buttons, I cant play with the new 8 buttons layout my fingers lose themselves lol.

Why would a 360 with a J-Tag make the build process anymore awesome?  ??? It's the lack of disc-swapping I guess?

The lack of disc swapping makes it even better, you can rip all your games to the hdd so I imagine a bunch of fighters and imported shmups.  I also imagine that they'll eventually get mame on there as soon as jtagging becomes easier.

My 360 is Japanese so I can play everything I want to play. :D IMHO, not swapping disc is a problem, as it let's me switch games way to easy.

i couldnt imagine 36o in arcade cab without jtag anymore. all the disc swap , region codes and the other ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- ms was coming up was driving me nuts . now its all gone and the machine works as its supposed 2 be . sold my japanese 360 some time ago . all running smooth from hd now . for example : mushimesama .. the drive spinups at start and ingame sucked as hell .. or the loading ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- of donpachi from cd .  dont get me wrong , the 36o is a nice lowcost nextgen console , with all its disadvantages .. there are several shooters worth buying , most of em require minimal hd space .

btw : j69 nice pimp !

Thanks guys. I originally had my 360 inside the cab but found that the wireless signal was dropping too much.

Plus when I want to play MW2 downstairs I can just unplug the AC and VGA leads and carry it down without messing about inside the cab.

Excellent work!

So, someone bought the modded mame cab for £650 and sold it to you for £75?

Where did you find that bargain!
