mame controls set up, 6 button vs. 4 button
« on: May 28, 2010, 05:45:17 pm »
hi all,

in my never ending tweaking of my cab, i've ran into an annoyance that i hope someone else has figured out.

first up, i have my player buttons set up in two rows, 4 buttons each.  thru my minipac, they are numbered as follows:

1  2  3  7
4  5  6  8

i have them numbered like that so 6 button fighters (street fighters, etc.) will light up the first 3 buttons in each row.

the problem is when playing 4 button games (neo geo system, etc.).  when mame launches, it looks at the control.dat, sees a 4 button game.  my led-wiz board gets the command to light up buttons 1-4.  but as you can see from my layout above, 4 buttons in a row don't light up.  instead, the first 3 in row 1 and the first button in row 2 lights up.

is there anyway to set up 4 button games in mame to read differently than lets say 6 button games without having to go into each game and set up it's own config?

i hope that made sense...

tony

Short answer is no. However, I think CFG Magician will help with this. I plan to try it when it comes time to set up my controls as I have a similar situation as you. You can find CFG Magician here:
