high scores in mame .035.. looked through forum it wont work...

all i want to do is enable saving of high scores in mame... ive looked and read that it was disabled in the newer versions etc.. i know i need to compile a new one ive tried using a program for it and everything i cant figure it out.. is there an easier way i could reach my goal?? what if i were to start using an earlier version.. does that mean most of my roms wouldnt work anymore??is there somewhere I can download a pre compiled one with the patch already installed.. it sounds pretty simple but i just cant figure it out...

If you're running .035 thats way before the hiscores were removed.  They did it in 0.108 and on.  Or did I misunderstand and you want to updated to a newer version and get a new rom set?

i mean .35 like the 3rd newest one... and i guess id need a command line enabled one right?? cause i'm using mala as a front end... i dunno how its so difficult i dunno i'm just dumb maybe haha
