I Just Watched (movie) For The First Time
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:30:50 am »
What movies have you not seen until long after they came out?

I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time last weekend.  I had heard the sound track many times in high school (mid 90s), but never saw the movie.

All in all it was a pretty good movie.

I just watched Office Space on Sunday. Some funny parts but overall I was kind of bored. There are some good lines to quote but...

It's not all that good. The second half is a real stinker.

I finally watched Barton Fink the other night. It was the last Coen Bros film I'd yet to see and, as usual, it did not disappoint. Great movie.

Great movie, especially when you work in that environment. Hell, I loved it before I ever had an office job, but now it's doubly better.

Just watched Point Break yesterday.  In the context of a popcorn flick, it's not bad.  Some pretty bad acting in it though, every line spoken by the police captain, ugh.

Started watching Brazil.  Interesting movie.  Still undecided on whether I like it or not.

Brazil is a great movie. It's my favorite Gilliam movie. If you like it, check out "Delicatessen" and "The City of Lost Children".

Just watched Superbad. (or is this not old enough?)

Good movie. Not "hilarious". (Why am I finding it hard to find movies as funny as other people say? Is it an age thing??)

I hear ya. Most comedies that everyone has gone on about in the last few years just haven't interested me. When I do watch any of them (if I even finish them), I just don't get the attraction.

I watched A clockwork orange a few weeks ago.  If your into mayhem, rape, and everything evil you will like it.  I enjoyed it.

If you're "into" those things, just turn yourself in.

Great movie, though.

I just watched the Back to the Future trilogy for the first time a month ago. Fantastic movies, IMO. They were a great pick-me-up for a social rough patch I was going through at the same time.

I haven't watched enough to know. We got a few minutes in, weren't in the mood to listen to Jonah Hill talk about his dick all night, and just turned it off.

I'm sure it is (and I plan on watching it). We just weren't in the right mood for it on that particular night.

(Actually, SHE wasn't in the mood for it, so we had to turn it off.)

I find myself watching more and more animated films and down-right enjoying them.

Kung Fu Panda
Flushed Away
Meet the Robinsons
Over The Hedge
The Wild
etc, etc....

I did watch Garage Days not long ago and enjoyed that one.

Yeah, perish the thought of valuing the opinion of someone you love, respect, and hopefully enjoy spending time with.

 ::)

Yeah, I mean, I'm obviously not going to MAKE her watch anything, and I don't like sitting there watching stuff by myself when she's home. If I'm home by myself (which is rare), I'd rather play a game or work on a control panel or something.

If I were watching a movie and ANYONE I was watching it with, including my wife, didn't like it I would tell them to ---fudgesicle--- off and continue watching the movie myself.  In my opinion, it's entirely selfish to make someone stop watching a movie because you don't like it.

I guess I am pretty lucky. My wife loves pretty much all genres...Horror/Sci Fi/Fantasy...we watch all movies together and of the literally 5000+ movies we have seen together in 18 years there have only been a handful one liked that the other didn't.

Same here. I've got her into so many different directors and genres that she had no interest in before we met.

Ditto.

There's still some movies though she'll never watch...like The Shining.  She also gets freaked out by psychological thrillers. I keep telling her that that's the point, but to each his (her) own.

She also doesn't do well with claustrophobic themes. She only recently agreed to watch "The Decent", and she looks away when the Grinch gets stuck in the chimney every Christmas season :dunno

I should add a small disclaimer...

There are some movies I watch with my buddies of the Japanese Splatter Gore variety during guy nights that I would never have my wife watch...

examples:

- Tokyo Gore Police
- The Machine Girl

But let's face it...they were made for guy nights...

Yeah, my wife doesn't like Superbad or Southpark, but she loves Road Trip and Wedding Crashers.  She's not a guy, but she's not a prude.  We like 95% of the same stuff.  There's just a small amount of brilliant stuff (like Frisky Dingo and Evil Dead) that she just doesn't get, but I'm not going to stop liking it, or stop watching it just because she wrongheadedly and horribly mistakenly doesn't recognize its greatness.   ;D   These are things we can work out.  We just don't watch them together.  But make no mistake.  She is wrong wrong wrong in no uncertain terms.

BTW, the other thing my wife can't take is gore.  And this applies even to movies she absolutely loves.  She is in love with Kill Bill, for example, but she will never watch it again.

Idiocracy - loved that stupid movie

I'm just waiting for a local ButtFuckers franchise to open up near my location. Seems like a good place to take the kids for a birthday party.

(For those of you who haven't seen Idiocracy, this is a reference within the movie)

And of course the obvious observation about Idiocracy is that it doesn't take place in the future, but is a commentary about how things are now!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show HAS to be seen LIVE. VIRGINS!!!
The movie by itself is not so good, you have to experience it.
We used to drive into Boston all the time, they have a midnight show in Harvard Square.
I think it is still running there.
I have seen it about 10 times.
Half of the people you meet are below average.

It's a shame that a movie can only be enjoyed when you're paying more attention to the crowd or waiting for your cues.

The movie is not worth owning, that's for sure...unless you can call up a 100 friends to come over and watch it every time.

Tim Bisley is right about Time Warp.

I just watched 70% of 2012.  :badmood:

What a terrible movie! Was there really people that belived that this fiction was a real possibility? Are these the same Y2K-bug believers? First of all, I fell asleep watching it because it was so bad. Good to see Woody Harrelson in a major flick but he was the only highlight.

2012 get 1/2 star of 5 from me.

It's a shame that a movie can only be enjoyed when you're paying more attention to the crowd or waiting for your cues.

The movie is not worth owning, that's for sure...unless you can call up a 100 friends to come over and watch it every time.

i wouldnt class watching the movie as seeing it live, go see a stage production, where the actors interact with the audience, thats lots of fun.

and the movie is totally worth owning for tim curries performance if nothing else
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

add stuff to the uk wiki section
