Next Project?
« on: March 26, 2010, 08:44:47 pm »
So.................. whats your next project?
You know, whats on the old back burner or at the edge of your mind?
I have a project hanging that I hope will be a bartop "Lucky 8 Lines" machine. (Got the parts, just need the energy.)
Also, Rotating monitor using a stepper motor (for my maming of a Capcom Bowling machine).
And now that the weather is getting warming, Benny B's Arcade needs some work.
So.... whats yours?

Still need to get my first cabinet done but I'm thinking of building one of these.

1) Get all the various brass bits mounted and the wiring polished up ( :), literally, as some of it is going in polished copper tubing)
2) Figure out how to make my monitor rotate.
3) add a real video card so I can play Future Pinball and Visual Pin on this thing (the onboard graphics just don't cut it)
...
...
...
Way down the line, build a pinball cab and possibly a sit down driving cab, but they likely won't be of the same motif

That would be an interesting project. I trust you will document your progress on here?

My next project (tomorrow) is to undo all the projects I have lined up, sell the parts on ebay, and put all my remaining gear into a Pedestal hidden to look like a piece of usable furniture.  The sheer mass of cables, wires, switches, displays and what-not is getting depressing.  I have a large skip full of wood, half built arcade cabinets, and a bunch of household junk I cannot wait to wave off to my local landfill.

I heck I might start early!
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

My back-burner project, pending a larger house with a proper games room, is a quad of networked sit-down Battletech sims set up to run Mechwarrior 4. My friends and I used to drive down to Seattle every weekend to play the Battletech sims at Wizards of the Coast, and it was always loads of fun. It doesn't -seem- to difficult to recreate the experience...given enough room to store them.

Spring is here (though it's cold today). I've sold off another machine that was taking space, so very soon I can drag arcade machines outside for some much overdue sanding & painting. Galaga & Ms Pac. And Juno First has new front art waiting for it.
NO MORE!!

So.................. whats your next project?

- Robotron Restoration or New-Build. Depending on availability/motivation.
- I'm also tempted to make a bartop cabinet.

Finish my first cab, what a rollercoaster ride thats been, but damn worth it. I seem to have picked up some sort of bug from visiting these forums.

I would love to do a restoration, but sourcing the gear in Scotland isn't an easy option, so will probably do another build. Hopefully the semi-skills i learned from my first, i can utilise to make a better second build.

Oh yeah the missus was looking at some of the jukebox projects and told me that i can make anything i want aslong as the jukebox comes first  :dunno

I didn't know you were from Scotland korbitz :)

You would be suprised what you can find/source over here in the UK.

I don't know how close you are to Kilsyth you are but [this] may interest you.

Project wise, I guess a virtual pin is next on the cards for me 'once' I have cleared up the current pile-o-projects.

+1 on the poker table

I started a table very recently (1-2 weeks?) and should be done in a few days.  Went with the race track look with 8 cup holders.  The table's 90"x44" and should be able to fit 10, but went with 8 cup holders for a more uniform look (plus I had restrictions that I don't need to get into here...)

Cut the holes for the cups tonight.  I just need 'low traffic' to stain and poly the racetrack and then put everything together for good.

For some good insight, check out perfectmancave.com.  I also found a lot of useful build info at:

5thstreetpokerparties.com/blackracetracktable/index

I'd love to 'have' a virtual pin, but I don't have the money for that right now.  Or the know how - I still haven't figured out how to get that stuff running on a PC.
