Tron curved plastic artwork above CPO - picture needed!
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:03:22 pm »
Anyone got a decent pic of the curved plastic part above the CPO? I've not seen any artwork available.

I got this from Phoenix Arcade. It's probably the best pic I've seen of it.

Are you putting this on the mini your building?

I'm toying with the idea. Maybe printing on adhesive transparent vinyl and fixing to some plexi. I'd spray the back of the plexi black, masking out the centre, then slapping a black light behind. Got to test how much UV gets through plexi first.

I know it's not mini-cab accurate but I'd like to have some lighting on it - I'm a sucker for the glowing handle look.

Thanks for the image, I reckon I can get pretty close to it if I decide to go for it.

Just a tip... If you install clear vinyl make sure the surface to be applied is really soaked down good with a water/soap solution. Translated means 1-2 drops of liquid dish soap to a full spray bottle of water. Then squeegee the heck out of it to get water and air bubbles out.

Installing clear can be problematic, and it will show lines, bubbles, etc easily if you don't wet down the surface prior to install.

Also make sure you oversize the clear vinyl alot. It will retain fingerprints on the adhesive side, so you want to handle it outside of the area to be applied.

otherwise hire some sign shop to install it for you.

Thanks for the tips RobbyMac,
I'm still thinking of ways to do this. Maybe NON-adhesive vinyl and attaching it by wrapping the top/bottom edges? Need to get the thinking cap on.

Vinyl striping from behind could work. but it'd need computer cut. Install would be difficult as well. I think clear might be the better bet.
One thing I hadn't thought of.. the colors may need to be backed with white (a sign shop can print the white directly under the striping only), otherwise they might be too transparent and the black would 'muddy' them up. Perhaps testing on acetate (both the black and the colored striping) will give you a good idea of what you're up against.

Thanks again RobbyMac, I'm gonna talk to Nigel at arcadestickers (he's done stuff for me before) and see what he thinks as well.

Here's what I cobbled together from the JPEG - it's not 100% but it'll do me:

Very nice! It looks pretty close if you ask me. Do you have it in a vector format?

Here it is, just a cheap knock-off! Haven't decided exactly how high yet, but it is 18" wide :)

Thank you sir! You'd have to get someone with a Tron cabinet to measure the height of it.
