My 84 wouldn't have made it a half mile a that speed, at least not in the current condition. Dude would've been on foot a lot sooner. It would've looked like Fred Flintstone's car after the carhop put the tray of brontasaurus ribs on the window ledge.

Couldn't help but think of Grand Theft Auto (the game) when watching that highlights vid. I wonder if the guy was a fan of the game? heheh

About 12 fences destroyed, 1 almost stopped 'em completely. Many miles through yards and down the wrong lanes of traffic. I personally dont care for those that do run from the cops. They might out run the ground units, byt the radio is much faster and so are the helicopters. Makes for great news footage and those cop chase shows on the reality channel.

a little FYI: Ford offered to buy Jeep from Chrysler just over a year ago. Chrysler entertained the offer and almost considered it. The stopping point was that Chrysler wanted to maintain the production and dealer network, just lease the Jeep name from Ford. Ford pulled their offer. Ford's intention was to eliminate the Cherokee, Journey, Patroit. Keep Wrangler. Change the branding for Explorer and Escape, then redesign -rerelease the Cherokee.

Must have been an older Jeep.  I don't think they've made anything in 15 years that could handle any of that.

Can only tell from the front that its a TJ, so its '97 to 2006.
There is nothing the old Jeeps can do that the new ones can't, particularly the front lockered Rubicon.

---smurfing--- ---uvula---. I have ZERO respect for anyone that does something like that. What would have happened if there were people in any of those backyards or kids on that playground? If some ---smurf--- drove through my backyard like that with my kids playing in the playground, the police are going to have to figure out how to get his stupid monks haircut out of my grill.

Ive considered myself a jeep fan for the past few years and I didnt know about that! The Cherokee as we know is was discontinued with the 2001 model year here in the US (Ive got a 99 with almost 150K miles, runs like a champ, needs a new transfer case though...), but I think it would be interesting to see what Ford could come up with for a "new Cherokee". Hopefully they'd be smart enough to keep the grill designs.

Yeah, the Rubicon is a pretty bad mofo if you're into off roading. I bought a CJ more for nastolgia, and to drive around with the top off and look cool. Although it is pretty well equipped for rock crawling. Hence, the reason the mechanic is trying to correct the castor alignment so I don't wind up in a ditch.

St. Louis seemed real hard on vehicles (never seen so many on the side of the road in my life) and 3/5 were Jeeps, 1/5 was a Mitsubishi, and the remainder seemed pretty evenly split.

Chrysler has/had a love/hate relationship with Mitsubishi for years, dating back to the Colt. The Colt used to have a badge on the back that said "Dodge Colt-Powered by Mitsibishi". Mitsubishi was trying to break into the US market but didnt have the capitol or dealer network to do so. The Mitsubishi trucks that are nothing more than a Ram but with the Mitsubishi emblem on the front look terrible. I will say the Mazda version of the Ranger doesnt look that good either. Back to the Dodge's, if the Dodge version isnt very good, then the Mitsubishi version will be the same since they are made on the same assembly line in Illinois. The only Misubishi car that has seemed to catch on is the Eclipse and the popularity of that one hase faded quite abit!

Wife has a Mitsubishi Endevour that is a Cherokee with different molding and trim. Same frame, suspension, and engine. You park it next to a Cherokee and they have the same profile.

I wouldn't have bought my Jeep as a primary car, it is a weekender. One of the few good things about getting older, you can buy dumb things that you don't need... I submit to you pinball machines and arcade games.

I was never a big jeep fan having never actually ridden in one until I was... about 19 or so. I did want to get an older jeep after I bought a my Chevy S10, if for no other reason the jeeps (like the CJ's) had more accessories (at the time) than any other 4x4 that I knew of. I used to get 4x4 catalogs that dedicated more than 1/2 or even 3/4 of their stock for CJ related parts.

In any case, I never got a CJ. After I finally managed to drive around in a Wrangler, I lost interest in that style of vehicle. I couldn't move any of my furniture. I couldn't camp above ground. The list went on and on. If I had my choice of any jeep, I would want to get the J Series.

I didn't even know the Rubicon existed until I was walking a trail after a friend's of a friend's Toyota mashup blew a rod, then blew out the hubs driving backwards. While he was trying to figure out what to do, the police drove up in a Rubicon and gave him a ticket for a busted windshield... out in the middle of ---smurfing--- nowhere, a thirty or forty minute walk back to camp and the police show up. Then they gave him a hard time because he used a beer keg as his gas tank.
