Can anybody modify a swf file ?
« on: March 02, 2010, 11:45:52 am »
Gusy dont know if you may remember but a post was made back during the past year of a "Van Halen" Asteroids parody game...

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=88989.0

I have that same file, and I have friends all the time wishing that i could place that on my cab...

I can pull it up (outside of my frontend-Hyperspin) but i can only use the arrow keys and space bar on the keyboard...

Is there a way to modify this file to where I can either change the mapping of the keys, and also make it go to automatic fullscreen?

If somebody could help me, I would serouisly appreciate it.

Should be able to remap the keys using an auto hot key script.  I know that someone on the HS site has done it in the past for other games.

this is close to rule 5, due its the swf need to been cracked and hence illigal. but there is a simply workaround:

Use do what Dazz said, so use a autohotkey script and remap these keys and let a batch file launch that.

For the fullscreen, I rembember seen a post about it in the MALA forum, where there is a commandline launcher for that.

Space Fractal, cracking an SWF file is NOT "illegal". I would argue it is somewhat off-topic for this forum, however. Legally, though, it's no different from reverse-engineering an executable file, or anything else for that matter. It's not illegal to take a car apart to see how it works, and it's not illegal to do the same in the digital domain. Repackaging that "car" for distribution and/or profit under your own name, however, is.

Thats just it....I have NO idea how to use Autohotkey and to incorporate it into the cab...I figured I would just ask out and see if anybody wouldnt mind helping me...

I'm most Eula's is against this form of job, but there is no requiring to do that (I also don't like do that in my software to, if I don't have included a source code). Its a really gray area side.

Anyway i diddent report this at all to admin, since its not needed here and is a good topic.

There is very good help file about autohotkey, so you should consult that. AutoHotKey (and such remapping software) is different that way to do and much easier. When you first do that in first game, rest is pretty easy. I also think a Pure Basic utility to do a wrapper could been fun to create. I dont have the time to create that right now.

I think it depends on the"Terms and Conditions" that you agreed to when obtaining or installing the software that determines if it's legal or not  .

I think the short and sweet of it is, you do not hold the copyright to the SWF. If you did, you would have the source.
SWF file are typically graphics with actionscript.

I think the AHK script was a great idea and workaround. What keys need to be remapped to what keys? I just remapped some keys just fine.
The trick here would be to download the SWF, then make a AHK script remap the keys, run mozilla and the swf, mozilla would open it fullscreen by sending a keystroke. After the mozilla process closes the script will exit and then your keys would be normal again.

sorry for my noobness...

I meant Mozilla, as in firefox.
If you tell me the keys you want to remap, and what you want them remapped to, I can assist you.

EG... You want CTRL mapped to T,  This way when you press T it will be like you pressed CRTL.

To shoot is SPACE, perhaps your button 1 is SHIFT, you would want Control mapped to shift.

So, tell me what you need mapped to what.

I found the swf earlier. I need to know what keys you want remapped, and the key you want them remapped to.

Download the "Flash Player" which allows you to play .swf's without the need for a browser.
