Here's the .swf. It will run standalone if you've installed the latest flash.

Greatest flash ever!

I shot soda out my nose when Hagar showed up!

I damn near did too. I didn't see him at first but just hearing "55!" get screamed in the background was enough.

I have a program that will wrap that SWF up as an EXE and sets the resolution to full screen. (Requires Windows). What resolution would you guys want this at?

Sorry guys, 512x384 was the closest match to the actual game size. Any higher resulted in a big ugly border. I just couldn't get it to scale. (Shouldn't be a problem, since ArcadeVGA does 512 quite nicely). You need Windows 98 or higher, with Direct X 7 or higher.

Files are too big to attach here, so grab em off my server until I find a suitable place to stick em:

http://www.rayb.com/downloads/vh-assteroids_512x384.zip

http://www.rayb.com/downloads/vh-assteroids_512-nomouse.zip

"nomouse" version has the pointer hidden. Use the TAB key to select "Start Game" with the yellow rectangle, then press Space.

Let me know if it's buggy. I had to make a "wrapper" and it took a while to get the kinks out. Any other Flash games I should "wrap" like this?

Certainly curious. You can even pause the game. Pushing up for thrust takes a little getting used to, though.

It's pretty hard. In Asteroids the broken rocks go in all different directions after the blast. Here they continue the same direction. And the wide legs make the 'ship' a lot bigger than in the original. Funny, but hard.
1920x1200 please?

Sorry Blanka, Flash does not perform well when stretched to high resolutions. I have to stick to a "native" resolution that's close to the original size in order to keep the frame rate good. (Is your MAME cab actually running at that high a res??)

IG-88: I'll wrap those two suggestions soon.

I thought it was alot easier than the real Asteroids...just got 104K on it (and it didn't roll over to 0 ;D ) No way can I get that high of a score on Asteroids.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I figured out a really easy way to save flash games to my computer and was just curious to see if anyone else was still interested.

RayB: Do you still have that software that you talked about earlier in this thread?

What was the purpose of the SWF loader parent file?
Couple reasons...
1. The "parent" loader is an EXE.  Flash files you grab off websites are .SWF. Front ends won't launch them.

2. I also set the scaling options optimally and I can do things like add background graphics. (See attached ZIP)
