question about MESS emulator and file naming
« on: February 19, 2010, 05:32:23 pm »
Does anyone know what MESS uses for naming it's roms? do they use the goodset names or no intro names? or do they have their own naming method?

I've had a hard time searching for this .. part of it is with the fact that they call their bios roms and their roms are called software.  I have the Atari 2600, but none of th egames for the Atarti 7800 and 5200 are showing.

There isn't a naming convention, you just put everything in the folder that you define for the platform's software.  For Atari 2600 for example, you'd create a folder under software called a2600 and drop all your zip files in there.  Basically, the folder names should match the bios rom name, but the software can be named anything.

Thanks, the issue was that the files were zipped as .7z files, and mess can't read those type of files.
