Oh man,
That's so cool!
I don't think my
ceilings are high enough
to hang one of these though.

My ceilings are definitely not high enough for that.  Now I want to build a couple for my yard and hang them from trees.   ;D

I want to try this...but either im a noob or i'm too old...but what does he/she means by "driver" ? :dunno
If you read the build link the author says this...

"I discovered El Wire online, which is an electroluminescent wire that has the appearance of neon and comes in different colors and thicknesses. The wires need to be powered by a driver to work, and that driver can be powered by batteries or a power supply. Drivers come in different types, and you can also use sequencers to get some serious blinking action going. I opted to use a sound activated driver, which can pulse the wires on and off to whatever music or other noise is going on in the room."

What is a driver? Is that what it is called  or is that a nickname for whatever he/she is talking about?

I know if i walk into a hardware store or radio shack...and ask for driver, Im going to get a dumb look or either a smart arse "straight or phillips" answer?

I'd love to try to tackle a Super Mario Question block....sheesh i got enough scrap wood from my cab build I could build a whole Mario level!

ELWire needs high voltage (but low current) AC to work. The "driver" they are refering to is basically a transformer/inverter setup, so someone could power ELwire from a DC source (like a battery, or a power block)

This page has a whole bunch of them (plus they sell a variety of EL wire)

EDIT: It looks like from the video this person was using a sound sensitive driver, but I could imagine a strobe one would be cool too...

Very cool idea indeed...though Paralyzer was a terrible song to demo it to.....ugh.

It would have been cool to see definitive on/off with something with highs and lows, we will rock you would have been good. Would be cool to see it pulse to the beat.

This would be even cooler if when you punched it from below a mushroom would pop out of the top!

That would be cool. Maybe make it hollow and put a flood lamp inside it, to shine down on the table.

I like it.  I've considered a ?-block lampshade or something like that, but I don't really know where I'd put it.  I don't really have a "game room" per se.

Or even if it just made the sound!

YES, it should make that "ba-doonk" noise when you turn it on!!
