Kortek Neo-Geo chassis, working after power supply looked at
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:10:36 am »
Hi guys, just picked this Neo-Geo machine up and the guy said "don't work"... the usual.

I smoke tested the thing and the monitor came up like the flyback was turned up too high, kinda white, so I knew the monitor would probably function.  The game board had no games but the test pattern stuff should come up.... didn't.  So I started dissassembly.

This machine was located in a beach hotel or something.  Power supply totally shot.  I rigged up an ATX computer supply to power the board and the thing WORKS!!!!

The monitor does need a cap kit but I cannot determine the chassis.  Here are some pics...

It is connected to a Zenith tube with the number G-A63ADG25X and 04RC0105-009.

So, anyone recognize this chassis?

Or any insight into the "best" Neo-Geo games?

Don't know about the chassis, but there are some great fighters for Neo-Geo, IMHO.  Samurai Showdown IV, Garou, etc.  Metal Slug games can be fun as well.

Looks like a Kortek monitor made for Sharp Image. Something like a SI-325 model maybe.

I finally got the monitor out of the machine.  Some moron had locked his coin box closed with a bar and then lost the key to the padlock.  Thankfully I had a lockpick set handy, 10 seconds with a rake pick and it was all over.   :laugh2:

Removed the heavy monitor and can confirm that the chassis is a Kortek.  Will post a CLEAN picture tomorrow evening sometime.

Does anyone have any manuals of Kortek chassis that I can download since this one did not come in the cab?

Is there a common place on the PCB that will have the model stamped on it. Can't find one anywhere.

Try these:

http://www.casinotech.com/TechDox.html

Kortek monitors generally have model numbers starting with "KT".

Thats the one!   :notworthy:

I overlooked this thing at least twice due to the fact that the adjustments knobs are shown on the board on bobroberts website whereas mine are on an extension cable.

I will clean the board up, send bob roberts the pics for this chassis and try to get a cap kit and flyback.

Any other parts I should look at replacing while I am at it?

EDIT:  I double checked the IC's and they are the same number as bob mentioned in his write up.

if the picture is good i would not bother to do any work on the monitor, dunno why you want to change the flyback-caps yeah maybe if you have some concern over the age but the flyback i would leave unless its arcing

Now that I have that honking monitor out I have to order a cap kit for my other monitor (flyback for arcing) I may as well replace the caps while it is out.

I also just touched up some suspect solder joints that looked like early cracking.  Someone (previous owner) has already done some solder touchup around the flyback looks like.

I am in contact with Bob Roberts currently about the cap kit possibility.

Eventually I will make a post in Project Announcements about this machine but was just getting excited and wanted to say that I had ordered a new CPO from Mamemarquees.

Still need to buy new joysticks and buttons as these have been abused.

Well, no cap kit so I put the monitor back in and now have two cartridges "Aero Fighters 2" and "Samurai Shodown".

After cleaning a couple layers of dirt and grim of the monitor and using my computer power supply to power the game board.... she is alive.

Will post pictures tomorrow, but for now I won't need a cap kit.  It is very workable.

Alright,

Ordered a power supply and got a new CPO in from mamemarquees but haven't installed it yet because I am flattening it out.

Oh, yeah, those are also all new joysticks and buttons.
