EMDKAY vs Mame Marquees
« on: December 03, 2007, 12:09:28 pm »
Can anyone offer any thinking, personal experience, ideas, etc. regarding the difference in product offerings / quality of final product between EMDKAY and Mame Marquees, with specific regard to a marquee?

Or specifically just one of the two.

I've ordered several marquees from emdkay with great success.  My friend just got one from mamemarquees and it was also topnotch.  Honestly, this is a situation where you cannot lose.

I've heard great things about Mamemarquees, but have never personally got anything from them.
I do have an EMDKAY marquee and it is very nice.

I've got both and have nothing but great things to say about them  :)

I honestly initially went with emdkay for my marquee for 2 reasons..  Price (at the time, the price difference was even larger than it is now) and good word-of-mouth.  And I couldn't be happier (See my marquee HERE)

Since I needed sideart, too (and an additional marquee for my dad's machine), I also got a chance to try out mamemarquees.  Excellent service/quality there, as well.  (See the marquee HERE)

So, IMHO, you can't go wrong with either choice.  Both top-notch, great customer service, and professional results  :)

wow, cool.  i wasnt so sure about emdkay... i thought mamemarquees would be like...so much better or something:)  i guess that's marketing for ya :)

emdkay replied to my email (about being able to ship quickly) first, so i guess that means i'll be buying from them since it sounds like either way i go is going to be a win.  cheers to both guys.  we're so lucky in this hobby to have such awesome vendors who actually 'care'.... well, aside from slikstik i guess?:) heh. (cheap shot :) --  cheers to slikstik too, they got me a blank cp in 3 business days from ordering w/ ground shipping.)

I've always heard that with Emdkay you get really black blacks (which is important for illuminating) so I would go with them. Problem is..... is he even still in business anymore????????

Nevermind. Called the wife at home and she says that my packages have come in. They must be close because I got my order in 3 business days after shipping. I'll let you know the quality of the order  when I open them up tonight!

Hey, I'm not going anywhere!!

Thanks for the comment on the black blacks!  The guy who got the Time Bandit marquee took some really nice shots showing just what you've mentioned in comparison to another marquee:

Got my artwork from Mamemarquees yesterday. They use US Postal Service, much quicker than UPS in my experience. They're based out of Michigan and I got my shipment at my house in Northern California in just a few business days.

However, the Street Fighter 2 marquee I got is a bit suspect. It's dark, really dark. Like the black part of the screening had too much ink or something and I can barely make out any pink or purple in the design. Maybe it's my imagination. I'll light it up and compare it to the pictures just to be sure. If it's not right I'll give Emdkay a try.

I need some sideart for my jukebox cabinet ..... can people please recommend a few places which do sideart?  It looks to me that EMDKey just does marquees and MameMarquees requires the sideart file to be complete.

I have some ideas on what I want the side art to be but would like someone with PhotoShop experience to help make it a reality.   Any help finding people interested in doing some photoshop work for me would be appreciated.

EMDKAY,  do  you do Star Wars marquees?  I've heard the Arcadeshop repro's leak through the black and that is one game you NEED solid blacks.   Some people have resorted to sticking duct tape across the back side of their AS repro marquees to prevent light from seeping through.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a Star Wars repro, but if you've got the image, I could print one up with the solid black necessary.

I got quite a lot of artwork from MameMarquees three years ago for my cabinet. (Yeah, long time ago now). But it was over $260 worth of art and some of it was user defined where he sent email pics for evaluation and I kept tweaking it till it was perfect.

I can't praise the guy enough. He was top drawer and the artwork arrived in perfect condition.

Of course I can't speak for the other supplier.... but i aint gonna let this thread go by without my endorsement of Scott.

Personally I've seen work produced by both Emdkay and MameMarquees and both of them produce fine quality results and I only hear good things about the delivery times from both of them.  Personally I like the plexi and laminating services offered by Mamemarquees but the actual marquee quality is top notch from both.

Good traders, nothing to suggest otherwise. So it's a case of "you pays yer money you takes yer choice"

Well, I placed my order.... thanks a lot guys.  That was a great help.

And I have to say.... well..................

Gosh, I didn't realize how exciting it would be to be waiting for the marquee ;-)

But I feel like I'm going to explode between now and Friday.. and that once I have it , I will be the happiest man alive :)

Thanks Leads

My Biased opinion here, so take it with a grain of salt.....

I believe both emdkay and I basically produce the same marquee at very high quality with solid blacks.  My premium version and his normal version, from what I can gather are almost produced with the same material and ink, he just uses a little glossier stock then I do. With the Byoac discount, my smaller marquee is less, and the larger ones costs a little more.

The difference is the design choices and the upgrade to the ultimate stock on my site, which is true backlit film and of course the matching sideart/cpo/bezel/kickplates.   Oh, and Emdkay apparently responds faster this week, I got to work on that....

Looking at pics of others' mamemarquees SF2 marquees, it looks to be that dark for a reason. The colors shine through quite nicely  ;D

agreed, I have only used one, but also hear great things about the other....

The best part is they show respect for each other in threads rather than have a pissing contest like some other vendors.

They are both an asset to this community....
