In my search to find the best version of MAME for my older computer, I've been both reviewing mamedev release notes and referring to the MAWS database to search for new and changed ROMS for individual releases.
In addition to code changes from the release notes, I wanted to know which ROMS had been both added and changed with each subsequent release of MAME from 0.93 through 0.106. A simple MAWS search, right?
MAWS Database -> New & Changed -> Cumulative Changes Since 0.93 -> Cumulative Changes Until 0.106
Not quite... MAWS returns data that displays only the initial release changed ROMs, not the release in which it was most recently changed. You'll get a recordset for "New" that will roughly correspond to the MAME version, but the "Changed" records only show the release in which the ROM was introduced. In order to see which ROMS were changed within a specific release of MAME, I had to search each release, one at a time. PITA
So I copied the results of each search to a Microsoft Excel workbook. The file is large and somewhat cumbersome, but is all I needed - maybe someone else could use it, too.
The Fine Print: I was only interested in releases prior to the video rewrite of 0.106, so this does not include any releases after that point. I separated release number and "u" to allow sorting by version. All other data (incl "Initial Release") is copied directly from MAWS and may or may not be sortable (is that a word?). In order to get it under the attachment limit, I've had to ZIP the workbook. I have no idea if this will be of benefit to anyone, and am not sure it will even benefit myself...
