New Daphne
« on: July 25, 2007, 01:36:10 pm »
Ok, so I was going to upgrade my Daphne install a few days ago... I figured it was a good time to download the latest version.

wtf... how do you use your existing / premade dragons layer / Space Ace files in it now?  It wanted me to pay to down load them from digital leisure when I already own the DVD's

Is there a reason to upgrade?  I don't have DL2... so not sure.

Thanks

I haven't tried upgrading, etc., but....didn't it just ask you to put the DVDs in the drive?

yup, stick em in the drive

you can still use manuall made files, you need to go into the games settings

be sure to uncheck the -autodownload stuff in the options (sorry don't have daphne with me now, so i can't be more specific)

The main reason to get the new daphne is that all the non-liscensed games (games that aren't available by digital leisure) will download automatically

AND, if you own the Dragon's Lair and Space Ace discs, the rips the new Daphne downloads are supposed to be the best quality currently out there. As far as running the other games goes, you can use the old frame files and all that the same way as before, the command line strings haven't changed and only a few new ones were added.

Ok, I guess I'll download them again (bla)...  If the rips are better though, that should be worth it.

but do I need the disks in to play on the cab?  I hope not... otherwise upgrading will be useless.

No, you need the discs to download the new files.

yeah, making people use the discs kinda defeats the purpose of an emulator IMO.

just a thought though.....since it looks for the CD drive....could you not make a virtual CD drive and just rip the CD contents onto that virtual drive?  i know that there are programs to make virtual floppy drives and so im assuming the same can be done with virtual cd drives (i.e. ISO files).  would that work or am i just reaching around in the dark here?  ::)

The original DVD is just for validation - pop it in once, and you're done. RTFM!

You don't know what your talking about man.  You literally insert the discs once... in the lifetime of the daphne install.

I think you are missing the point to.  This new system is officially endorsed by digital leisure, meaning if you have the dvds, you have a legal right to run the games on the daphne emulator!

I'm considering trying the new Daphne -- I got the 1.0 beta and it downloaded a big DL file somewhere, but when I run it, it asks for an original DVD.

I see a lot of new packaged DVD's for sale on Amazon from $10-$20, however I'm worried about the requirement to leave the DVD in the drive as a key.

My MAME cabinet has one crappy, unreliable DVD drive under the hood, not enough for all the games I want to buy and play.

If I buy the DVD's is it possible to rip them into an ISO file or something, and then play then on a "virtual drive" using something like Virtual DAEMON Manager?

All I did is network share the upstairs DVD, threw the discs in there and mapped the drive on the cab.

No problemo.

Does anyone have a link to digital leisure to the latest/greatest/best DVDs you can use with Daphne?  As you aere all aware, there's quite a few different versions out.

Thanks!
