MALA & PC Shortcuts
« on: July 12, 2007, 09:11:08 am »
Has anyone been able to get PC Games to launch from shorcuts with MALA RC9,  I've pointed roms folder to INK files,
I have %roms%,  but nothing happens.

Yeah, I tried many things, but the only way I could get them to work is to:

Set the executable to:
explorer.exe

Set the commandline to:
%path%\%rom%.%ext%

Now here's where it gets strange, but so help me I've duplicated this over and over to verify:
Add a second extension (any 3 letter extension) to Rom Extentions, for example:
lnk, txt

Now refresh the main game list.

That's the ONLY thing that works for me.  Want to break it?  Remove the txt rom extension and refresh the main game list.  See? It no longer works.  Also with the older version of Mala, I don't remember having to use Explorer.exe as the executable.

Anybody have shorter directions to get LNK files to work?

EDIT

I see where the new beta of Mala (9b) fixes the lnk issues.  I will give it a shot this evening.

EDIT #2

No, I still have to do the above, even with the beta version.  That is, if there are only LNK files in the roms folder, it fails unless I do the above.

Ok, i downloaded from your link.  I cannot get it to work if LNK is the only extension listed under rom extensions.  In other words, I'm not putting files with different extensions into the roms folder.  I'm just adding a dummy extension.

Have you tried it with only LNK in the rom extensions field?  Also, I have to have EXPLORER.EXE as the executable and then the commandline as:
%path%\%rom%.%ext%

I then must refresh the main game list.

Any ideas?  What's your configuration?  Maybe I am crazy? ;D
Really not important because its working for me with the work around, but I wonder if other people are running into what I am?

OK I just did it here at work from scratch using the latest version:  http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/MaLa_v1.0RC9a_beta2.7z

Step 1) Create a folder with your .lnks

Step 2) Create your new Game List

Step 3) Set the command line

Step 4) Refresh your list

Yep, a fresh install with the new release cleared up my problem.  Many thanks, loadman.

So you created a shortcut the games EXE file and place the shortcut in the shortcuts folder ?
Point MaLa to the file in the shortcuts folder and all should work ?
