www.VAPS.org
« on: November 27, 2005, 11:44:56 am »
I was surving the KLOV and I saw a listing for "rarity" of the game I was looking at.  When I went to the site that the statistics come from (VAPS.com) I decided I wanted to join, but I can not figure out how to do so.  The site says click on "my entry" to register, but it only gives you a login screen.

So, my question is:  Does anyonek now how to register?  And is anyone here a member?

thanks,

Chris

Ask them where it is:

http://www.vaps.org/feedback/

It's an OLD site. I'd say it's become irrelevant (and probably why new members can't sign up). I don't know why it was linked into KLOV. The "rarity" info is far from accurate.

Basically, this site started up 10 years ago. Collectors all signed up and filled in their collections. Then one day a bunch of member entries just disappeared. People didn't bother coming back and entering them all in again.

Since then I'd say the site isn't used much.

Vaps has been crap lately. My collection is still up there but my login name and password no longer work. I believe they were going to move the site to a new server or something like that. They have yet to fix the problems. It's too bad, really. I like having my collection listed right there and without vaps, I probably would not be in the hobby right now. Vaps gave me my first contact in the hobby that got me started. I think the keeper needs to give control over to someone who has more time to maintain it or the community should create a new site (if there's an interest anymore).

I did try to send them an e-mail asking them how to sign up.  The e-mail address bounced back to me.  So, I guess the site is pretty much dead.  Too bad, I really like the idea behind it.

vaps is run by webmagic, the same folks that made/run Klov. Try posting to the klov forums for info.

Update... everyone should now use this database instead:
www.ggdb.com

It's more flexible, and won't get deleted.
Collectors on RGVAC hate VAPS and want it removed from KLOV.

Posting on KLOV message boards won't do any good.  Nobody there knows why it was added, either, and nobody there likes it.  The people who actually run the KLOV site don't post or read the message boards there, for whatever reason.

In fact, one guy on the KLOV forums is complaining that the stupid VAPS stats cost him a deal.  He said the seller looked up his games on KLOV, and discovered they were rare, so he thinks they're worth a fortune now.

Looks like the database has a few holes in it but with time I hope they will get filled in.

Yeah, already did Ray....let's see what happens. The database is alas not as filled as KLOV it seems, but let's give it a chance.

He's also in the middle of growing the database.

Here is the recent thread discussing the features and progress.

Impossible. Everyone knows the world is flat and drops off to oblivion at the North American borders.  ;D

Actualy, you can select about every part of the world including UK/Ireland (HELLO HERE IS A NEWS UPDATE, THESE COUNTRIES ARE PART OF EUROPE !)
The options now are:

US
Canada
UK/Ireland
Central/South America
Australia
Japan/Asia

I'd suggest either to go for continents or individual countries....

Missing continents are Europe & Africa....in case you missed it ;)

Ya know what I think that Africa is going away anyway. I listen to XM and 2 stations I like Ngoma (african) and World Vision (world music) Have been replaced with French stations. The world has been reduced to the size of France. I mean sure great wine and all, but come on.

Bring back Africa!!!

Um yeah. missed the point.

It is sad.

What is also sad is that I didn't get a response on my mail.

No points scored......I hate it when I take the time to give some feedback and they simply ignore....
