Delete those mahjongs (and Quizzes)
« on: December 02, 2003, 08:39:29 am »
I'm no programmer so those of you that are will have a laugh.  Anyways, heres a simple batch file to delete those mahjong games.  Will save you from having to explain to your guests that no you don't play them, the animated half naked japanese girls do not arouse you and that they are just part of the romset (unless of course animated japanese girls in their undies are your thing then by all means keep them ;))

List taken from genre.ini in folders section of mame.
edit : oh yeah rename .txt to .bat.

There is an a few programs that can do it (but adult games, not mahjong ones)

Better solution is

1) Learn to play them.... I hear they are fun

2) Get a frontend that has filters.

I'll use it.  Thanks.

Lilwolf.  What's your high score at one of these?

I just did one up for quiz games too.  I am big on reclaiming HD space that would otherwise be wasted  ;D

no thanks, I have over 4000 games, I might as well play the ones I enjoy--maybe when I'm bored I'll try one of those...

same drill--turn .txt to .bat

There are several programs that can delete/rename/move (your choice) roms based on information in the catver.ini file which includes many categorys like adult or mahjong. There is even at least one that can optionally delete/rename/remove artwork, screenshots, titles, and other related files to those roms if you want it to.

My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Hi,
I use MameContentManager.

Available from

http://www.mameworld.net/mcm/

It uses the Catver.ini (available from http://www.catver.com/)

Hope this helps

Do you know off hand how much spcae was freed up when you removed the Mahjong and quiz games?  Just curious and I'm at work right now, so I can't check at the moment.

Thanks for the batch files!

Steve

Hi,
Not really sure how much space was saved.
I needed to fit as many games as possible on a 8 Gig hd (including OS/mame/atari)
So I got rid of Mahjong/quiz/adult. and chd games (this was on mame .75)
And everything fit. But not sure what was the original size, or what size I ended up with.

The games that shocked me were the Fantasia games.  I downloaded some snaps for d-f roms, that I had downloaded, and I was going through them looking for something to play when boom.

I am thinking, I need to get rid of these before the wife sees them.  I did try to play them first.  Kind of an Adult Qix game.  But I like Qix.

Does this kill all the adult games as well?
-------------------------------------
My games: Tapper, Asteroids, Cocktail-MAME, Tron, ROTJ, Tempest, Star Wars (not working)
My wants: Warlords Cocktail
