Problem recognizing .7z files? Anyone have a fix for this?  Not loading game list.

Not currently.

If you search the forum you'll find someone who utilized a batch file to change the extension on all their roms to .zip in order to generate the gamelist, then changed them back.

Another thing that might work is using Romlister to generate your gamelist.

This is a pretty big issue moving forward and one of the reasons that I haven't updated my roms since v.146
Hopefully Loadman will find the time to address it.

I'm having the same problem.

I was wondering if I use CLRmamepro to un-merge my merged romsets ( which I've been planning to do anyway) and choose to use .zip compression will that solve the issue?

Thanks in advance.

I suppose what you could do is:
Make a copy of your MAME rom directory (just in case).
Open a DOS prompt window in your mame rom directory.  Do a rename command -
Code: [Select]
ren *.7z *.zip.
Wait until it's finished.  Leave the command prompt window open.  Run mala and let it create it's game list.
Run the rename command in your mame rom directory to change the extensions back to .zip -
Code: [Select]
ren *.zip *.7z.

My set is still .zip.

Using a ren command from .7z to .zip I was able to get MALA to populate the refreshed working game list.  Once I changed it back everything works fine.  I wasn't able to get Romlister working with this trick however.   :dunno Now the only issue I'm running into is how to add secondaries to the game list.  Example, TMNT2p is inside the TMNT merged set and MALA won't automatically populate it.  I'll likely have to go in and manually edit the list to get it added - or unmerge the set for games I need these on (a few SFs and all the 2p variants of my fav 4p games).  Any thoughts on tackling that issue?

It's a bit easier for me right now as I'm working with an extremely limited list for my current build.  120ish games.  I'll have to do it again once I start tackling racing games but that will also be a small list (less than 20 I imagine).  If I was working with my full sets it would be enough to send me packing I imagine.

If you're wanting to work with small sets it's really easy if you build the lists in mame then use a rename utility to add the right file type to the rom name and a one line list copy script to grap them from the rom folder and move them to a new folder.

I use a split set.  The problem with that is I have to copy the bios, parent and clone roms from the entire set to my cab set.  Six of one, half dozen of the other.

I just got an entire 1.49 romset and it's in .7z format >_<.  This issue is driving me crazy.

Why not use CLRMAMEPRO to rebuild a new set as .zip from the .7z set you have?

Even though MAME may support .7z, many frontends do not.  Therefore, my mame set is .zip.
