If you want a piece left out, order from bartop arcades.

I would just like to clarify that this is NOT ME he's talking about.

Not particularly.  Only business I've done with Haruman that I can recall is buying a pair of Xbox controllers that didn't work.

Still not letting that go, eh?

so I finally got down to working on the kit from haruman and just wanted to share what I've done so far.  I used a multicolored led light strip to light up and change colors.

This looks great! Just as a thought, I too implemented an LED strip with exactly the same execution you did (i.e. wrapping it around the marquee hole) and found it was too bright, and the LED's 'showed through' the marquee itself too much. I opted to trim them down, and placed a single strip across the centre... I trimmed a piece of wood down to the width, so that it was around 3" tall, and wrapped it in tin-foil, with the LED strip glued horizontally across the centre. It created a more uniform glow overall, without the harshness of each little LED.

Just my two cents.

Hello! First time poster on here, been lurking a lot, but I finally have a few questions.

I'll get the most annoying one out of the way first: I ordered a ultimate widescreen last week and wondering if there is an estimate on when it will be shipped out!

Now the real question! I want to make some art for it, I have some basic photoshop/illustrator background so I wanted to do it myself. Do you have any templates or something I could use to design since I don't have my kit yet to measure it? I assume you do since I see the cool custom art in this thread already. Also, where do you like to get your art printed? Is there a specific material you use for the control panel, should I do the sandwich style with plexiglass on top of the art?

Just wondering what you have found to work well with your kits. I read through this thread, but I haven't seen much about the ultimate widescreen. Any build logs of people who have used them? Can't wait to start mine!

Hey there, I should be picking up your kit from the CNC either today or tomorrow, and then the slot cutting & packing will take place over the weekend.  It will ship Tuesday, you'll get an email from FedEx with the tracking number.

I can send you some templates to make some art up.  I like to get my art printed at Soul Draw, but they have upped there minimum order, so it may not be economical for you.  I'm usually ordering multiple sets at a time so it works for me.

I just use self adhesive vinyl for the sides & control panel.  I don't cover the control panel with plexi, so far it's been fine.  If this was getting heavy use like in an arcade, then I would.

The ultimate widescreen has been a very good seller lately, but I haven't seen many threads on them.  I can tell you it is set up for Sanwa controls, 2 x JLF joysticks, 6 x 24mm OSBN buttons (screw in) and 16 x 30mm OSBN buttons (screw in).

Awesome thanks for the quick reply! I look forward to the template so I can get started, already have some ideas bouncing around. I have seen a lot of people using gameongrafix.com, do you think that would work for me?

And maybe I will make a build log for it, since there aren't any others yet. I have never done something like that before though so I will probably wait until I am finished to post it all at once.

Update on the Berzerk bartop, sideart done, CPO done, control panel adjusted to match the original fire - joystick - fire spacing.  Bezel adjusted slightly for better fit.

There is a good amount of room, a fat 360 or PS3 will fit no problem, ATX would be fine.

It has been a long time since I used photoshop, but I found someone elses art a few pages back and copied it to make myself a template. I think I set the size right. I haven't actually played the new ones yet, but I always loved Soul Edge/Blade/Calibur when I was younger so I decided to use that as my theme. Not sure if I want to put words on my Marquee or not, if I do I will completely redo it. I wish I could've found good artwork from the older games, but the fourth game had the best selection to work with. I really like the sides and the marquee, but a little unsure on the control panel. Is it too random? The colors are the actual button colors I ordered (before I decided on a theme). Like I said I haven't played with any kind of design work in years. Looking for honest criticism.

Sides look great, go back to the drawing board on the Marquee and Control Panel.

+1.  The collage stuff just is too busy for my eyes and it's distracting.

I have attached some templates to this post, just in case.

I'm thinking of getting another kit ( the ultimate kit and 2 modded wired xbox360 controller).  I plan to put a xbox 360 slim in there and was curious on how you would get  the sync button extended so that I could get player 3 and 4 wireless controllers to be linked when I want to play a 4 player game.  What do you guys think would be the best solution.  I would not want to open the arcade box just to hit the sync button or have 2 dedicated wireless controller for this kit.  thanks in advance.

It's been a while since I looked at that button's guts on the 360...  it should just be a momentary pushbutton, which means it should be able to be wired to a normal arcade button.  I'll take a look & see, but it should be doable.

Did anybody make any bezels that fit your bartops?  Currently all I have for my Galaga is a thick piece of black paper.

Whenever I build a bartop, I take my design over to Staples for printing. Caution: you need to give them strict dimensions when you have them print it - both for any outside and inside dimension - as their software can generally "shrink to fit" any printing. In Canada, they normally charge $14 for a poster-sized print.

Not for the vertical ones yet.  I'm getting better at the photoshop, I can can give it a go and see how it turns out.  What size monitor are you using?  17"?

making a bezel can be tricky, since not all monitors have the same size bezel around the screen, and someone could use a 15 or 17 inch monitor instead of a 19 or 20. I can pretty easily design you a bezel for your cab if you give me dimensions

A simpler solution to consider -- I put two USB ports in my cab. For 4 player games, I can just plug in wired XB360 controllers. Easier than wireless, and the USB port is there for a keyboard or thumb drive, as well. The cocktail design he posted a bit ago is mine -- you can see the hole for one of the USB ports under the end control panel in one of them.  If I was doing a bartop, I'd just put one on each side, maybe back towards the rear, so they're out of the way. Its like $20 worth of parts.

The 2 usb ports are going to be taken up by 2 dedicated wired controller hacks for the main cabinet.  Can you plug more than 2 into a 360?

Yup, USB hubs work fine. You actually have four, anyway. There's two in the back and two in the front.

Thanks,  I'll put that in mind.  I didn't know that USB hubs are supported on the xbox 360

I have to say . i just got my cabinet from Haruman,  I have not started building it yet , just opening it for inspection. This guy is the King of shipping. Every piece so far has been packed and protected very well. (sometimes you have to worry when fed-ex has it for a few days) If this is a sign of things to come i am already impressed. Thanks again.
